Background: A unified Thai kingdom was established in the mid-14th century. Known as Siam until 1939, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been taken over by a European power. A bloodless revolution in 1932 led to a constitutional monarchy. In alliance with Japan during World War II, Thailand became a US ally following the conflict. Thailand is currently facing armed violence in its three Muslim-majority southernmost provinces.

Well the last couple of days have been a an emotional rollercoaster for me but before that allow me to share some photos. I'm still slack and have not uploaded any of my own (this will happen soon... promise....) but i can guide you in the direction of someone much more efficient than me. Helen has been putting me to shame and regularly posting her photos on the web. She also has a much better camera then me (my poor S5800 i miss you) and has took some great images. http://picasaweb.google.com/Helen.Ree Look in the Ko Chang albums and you will see [View Full Entry]

First the apology Sorry for my lateness and the lack of the second Chiang Mai report, its really difficult to keep this up to date with where I am and what I'm doing -so I've made the executive decision to go bac and finish when I get time. Sukuthai Sukuthai is an amazing place, I'm so glad we decided to come here as we were thining about not doing it. Not only does it break up the bus journey but as you will see from my pictures it its quite spectaculay, especially at sunset. We rented a scooter the firts day [View Full Entry]

Well i'm now in Ko Chang and was going to write this straight after my Bangkok blog. However exhaustion took other and i need to go eat. Just before i wrote my last blog the Estonian girl, Helen, who i've been rooming with walked in and handed me my bumbag. Contents, one British passport with thai 30 day tourist visa, ipod, approximately 50GBP, yellow fever cetificate, leads to connect camera to computer (still have my battered compact digi to record my adventures) and police report re. my sadly stolen and much missed Fujifilm S5800. Not particularly exciting Wes you may say. [View Full Entry]

Dear All Sorry for the delay. Although there are loads of internet shops around I can't always access this site or download photos. Also we're both being very lazy and it's much nicer to lie on the beach than sit in an internet shop! Anyway, back to the blog.....We left Ko Samet and we were a bit sorry to leave apart from the awful mosiqutoes and mange dogs. We set off to Ko Chang - which is an island further east and not that far away. Unfortunately independent travel in Thailand is designed to be as difficult and expensive (relatively speaking [View Full Entry]

A sight for sore eyes
After a long delay at the airport, we finally reached our hotel room on the beach
There was one final stop on our journey, before heading home to Melbourne. We thought we'd spend our last few days on a beach in Thailand... which was lucky because we were still recovering from our bout of food poisoning. Now we're back at home and looking forward to catching up with everyone. Thanks for checking out our blog, and we'll see you soon. MD & GT [View Full Entry]

OUr first tuk tuk ride to Kho San Road
We've followed our hearts to a different land, as if our feet marched to a different band. Something to be said about that first line, It's not so different with her hand in mine. On we'll go down an unknown path called living, Realizing each day's a gift that won't stop giving. Learning how to acept this gift is the real true key, Like someone once said "what's to be, will be". On we go through the jungle an beach, Learning life's lessons (maybe sometimes teach). We hope that this blog, shows adventures galore, good times, new friends, true love and [View Full Entry]

Elephants

Asia » Thailand » East » Ko Chang
All over the island of Koh Chang there are adverts for Elephant trekking. Today I decided to do one - the full one with 'elephant swimming' I had no idea what this part would entail. But would be pleasently surprised. The elephant crew came to pick me up midday, they chucked me in the back of a pickup and we were off. Soon as I got there, there was an Elephant waiting for me as well as a little guide. My Elephant was a 29 year old lady. They all came from the old logging industry which was closed down in [View Full Entry]

The rest of Ko Chang

Asia » Thailand » East » Ko Chang
The day after the elephant trek we decided we would rent a moped out and travel around the island. The place is seriously beautiful. Ended up in a fishing village that had shops on the water and even sold doughnuts!! As usual when we rent motorbikes we ran out of petrol and were stranded on the road side. Walked to a guys house who wouldnt hear of giving me directions to get some gas. He jumped on his motorbike and took me to the garage and then back to the bike. He refused any money or free petrol and just said [View Full Entry]
