Background: A unified Thai kingdom was established in the mid-14th century. Known as Siam until 1939, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been taken over by a European power. A bloodless revolution in 1932 led to a constitutional monarchy. In alliance with Japan during World War II, Thailand became a US ally following the conflict. Thailand is currently facing armed violence in its three Muslim-majority southernmost provinces.

That's one big ass tiger!
Day 5 - Doing the tour - Kanchanaburi, Thailand “Be cautious of the tigers. And make sure you don’t get ti-gers and Thai-girls mixed up. Although there is little difference between the two!” - Kung, our tour guide. During this hastily planned and incredible vacation, David and I decided to do everything on our own. We chose the sites, found are own way and provided our own food. You save a lot of money that way. Not to mention you get to see a lot of things the normal tourist does not, while going at your own pace. Having said that, [View Full Entry]

Hello I know it has been along time since last entry so I will try and not go on too much and there will be loads of pics!!! I have been keeping busy at work with the girls and they are certainly making me work (the girls not the staff). I have now got Bo sitting which I’m pleased about so she can see better and has the chance of using her hands better. And now working on Mod’s sit to stand which she loves to do and pushes her self every time. These girls are amazing they never complain and [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone. Well our final day in Bangkok was as busy as ever. Got up early to go see the temple Wat Arun (pics up on facebook already) and it was amazing. Then we wanted to go see the Grand palace so we got a speed boat accross the river, and of course i (Ness) had to drop something in the river, which was my sunglasses however i have never seen someone move so quick (obviously not me, i just watched them float away and Dan...well he just laughed) but the driver nearly jumped in after them for me and saved [View Full Entry]

I took a public bus to Kanchanaburi, site of the infamous and tragic 'Bridge over the River Kwae', walking across the bridge at sunset. It was frighteningly picturesque! The next day I went to Erawan National Park, and hiked up the seven tiered waterfalls, swimming in some of the pools, climbing on the rocks under the falls themselves, and getting nibbled at by fish. In the afternoon I take a kayak trip six or seven kilometres down the river, passing locals fishing and washing in the sewage-filled water. As I paddle under the bridge, a train crosses it, heading for the [View Full Entry]

Hello my chums and family Well I have a lot to fill you in with as been very busy for last 5 days non-stop, just the way I like it (but hard work). I’ll start with Friday… I had a good day with the girls we went swimming in the morning. I had to wear shorts and T-shirt over my swim costume and the shorts were baggy and kept dropping down when I was in the water lol!! No I wasn’t trying to Mooney them I have grown out of that now!!! Well maybe lol!! I had one of the little [View Full Entry]

Sun rise over Bangkok

After the hustle and bustle of Bangkok this was the ideal get away. Actually where I stayed was a little more of that. Quite a distance from the city, we reached a pier and took a boat in the night to the middle of the jungle to this resort called River Kwai Resotel. Brilliant place. Completely cut off from the world it was a nature freaks haven! There is a cave to explore nearby, waterfalls, elephant rides, tribal settlements to visit, swimming pool and did I say I was living on the river front :) Went to in the infamous [View Full Entry]

I know I know, no blogs for 2 weeks then 2 in 24 hours I hope you kiddywinks can cope with the excitement... So, Day 5 and the first organised tour....I say organised but it was in fact overbooked and there was a bit of a delay whilst they sorted out how to get the extra 'Bangkok 2' to the Floating market...Our driver washowever keen to make up the lost time, a little too keen for my liking. And as such was prob the only person on the minibus who wasn't phased by him playing dare with the oncoming traffic... Anyway, [View Full Entry]

21/08/08 Thursday Day 7 Tayto day, Kanchanaburi and it’s backwardness Not a very much eventful day at all today. Packed up the bags to leave Bangkok and head to Kanchanaburi. Got a taxi from the hotel to the south bus station and of course your man ripped us off. The bus journey was grand. Met another couple from the states travelling around. They were on their last two weeks of travelling. Went to the TAT (tourist office) here to find out where our hostel was. When they didn’t know it didn’t look good. We decided to ask one of the taxi [View Full Entry]

Picture postcard from the 'beach' beach
Following the last entry we went on a boat trip in which we visited Ko Phi Phi where we saw the beach (from the movie the beach) which was beautiful yet utterly overcrowded and somewhat frustrating. We then took a wizz round the islands on our speed boat, had lunch on a lush beach before being taken to another beach to chill and snorkel for a couple of hours. The day was fun but perhaps a little depressing to see what mass tourism does to a place, and by this time we were both becoming extremely frustrated with the money grabbing [View Full Entry]
