Last day in Bangkok today. We have been here since Tuesday so we have been able to fit lots of sight seeing in. Aside from a day trip to Ayuthaya we have been in the city the whole time.
It has been amazing. We have visited lots of temples and seen so much. We have also experienced lots of weather. Yesterday it rained so much that all the streets were flooded! It was really deep in places including the road the hotel was on. You could not leave unless you were prepared to wade through it! It all drained away in a couple of hours though. On the whole it has been hot, hot, hot.
We visited a Tesco's yesterday! Shocking I know, but we came across one when we were out and thought we HAD to go in. It was huge so we stocked up on snacks. We bought some doughnuts but we obviously did something wrong. We just put them in a bag and took them to the till. When we got to the till the girl thought it was the funniest thing she had ever seen and kept waving them about at all the other shop
assistants and laughing!
We went to Vimanmek Teak Mansion today which is the largest teak mansion in the world and was built by King Rama V. It was really nice inside. Before you can go into any of these buildings you have to take your shoes off. Also in certain rooms you have to sit on the floor. There were lots of images of the King in the building and all the Thais bow there head in respect when they see them. They love the Royal family and there are pictures of them everywhere - in shops, on rounderbouts, in taxis and in this internet café.
We have been to several wats since we have been here although Wat Phra Kaew was the most impressive. It had so much gold and ornate carvings. It is the home to the emerald Buddha.
One of my favourites was Wat Pho. This is where the reclining Buddha is. It is HUGE. I think it was over 40 metres long. We took lots of photos!
We leave for our trip to Cambodia and Vietnam tomorrow. Just time for a swim before we go and meet our group.
Until next
time...

Send Private MessageGreat blog LJ. I currently live in Vietnam working for Rough Guides and it’s an amazing place - I’m sure you will love it as much, if not more, than Cambodia. Let me know if you’d like any suggestions for places to visit (just mention it at the end of an entry) - there’s some real gems but they tend to be hidden away.
Hello! All sounds amazing! Just had time to read over your blog. I saw the reclining Budha on TV the other day and it looked very impressive. Glad you're seeing it all! Bet the lab seems a long way away now : )
