Assumption College
Leng and Tops school We woke up early, packed up our things and checked out. We walked with our bags to the pier and bought our boat tickets. We grabbed some crouissants and drinks from 7 11 and then got on the boat back to the main land. To get on the boat you have to climb over the side. I always feel like I am going to fall in the water because I have my backpack on my back. One day I'm going to fall backwards.
Top told us that when we got off the boat we'd catch a blue/indigo bus on the same side of the street to Rayong... so we sat there with the taxi motorcycles waiting for a bus to go by. They eventually asked us where we were going and we told them. They told us to get on a songthaew ( a regular pickup truck where they've made seats in the back). The ride wasn't long. We arrived in Rayong an hour early, and the plan was to meet Top and Leng at the bus stop, so we went and grabbed a drink across the road. Its hard sometimes, at some resteraunts you just walk in and the
waiter comes and asks you what you want, and at others you have to walk up and request whatever you want. Its always a guessing game.
For anyone who doesn't know. I taught english for a couple summers. We had kids come from all over the world. Top and Leng were 2 of the thai children that I taught. Top showed up first. He doesn't look much different, just older and wiser. He has finished school and is now taking computer sciences in university. Leng came a few minutes later. He is still at Assumption going to school.
Leng had found a hotel for us so we jumped into another songthaew and off we went. The first place we went was full, but luckily there was another hotel across the street. We payed $13 for an air conditioned room. After dropping off our bags we walked to the main street a couple blocks away and got into another songthaew. The first stop was to visit their school. We walked in and not shortly after the guard was whistling at us to come back. Top exchanged a few words in thai with him, gave him his ID, then off
we went. Their school was on about 50 acres. Its a Christian school, but they do allow all relgions to attend. It costs approximately $300 a semester to go. People come from all over Thailand to attend this school, there is housing right on campus. The school goes from grade K-12. There is a swimming pool for the younger students, and they also grow a garden.
After the school tour, we went to Laemtong Mall for lunch. Tristan and I really wanted to try thai food, but we never know what to order. Leng and Top took us to a place that they like to eat at. We've found at a lot of places you have to purchase a credit card like thing. They put a balance on the card for you, and when you get something to eat, they swipe your card with the price. Afterwards you go back to the main till and they give you back what you didn't spend. Its a different, we've done that twice now at shopping malls. Top and Leng showed us what each section was serving. Tris and I both had the same as Leng. I had the crunchy pork with
rice, and Tris had the soft pork. It was very good.
They took us after to a market by the water. Top and Leng had never been their either. I tried a thai dessert. It was a snow cone with jelly. There was to much though, and it was really sweet so I could only eat a bit. Top bought this other snack which was like a noodle outside, with a sweet peanutty inside. It was really good. Tris, nor I would've never thought of trying it if we were on our own, because they kind of look like some sort of seafood... but now we know its not, its tastey!!
We headed back to the main bus station and walked to a temple. You have to take your shoes off before walking into any temple. As we were walking around we heard rain and decided to run back and get our shoes before they got really wet. Not even 2 seconds later it DOWNPOURED. We aren't talking just a little rain. See pics below. The rain lasted for about 10 min.
We said our goodbyes to Top and Leng and came back to our hotel. Tristans
back is really sore, he pulled something when trying to help me put my backpack on. So we relaxed for a bit. We then went back to the mall, its actually within walking distance from where we are staying. We had some McDonalds for dinner, which was pretty much the same as Canada McDonalds. They have a lot more fish options, and beside the American Ketchup, they have chili sauce and tomato sauce. After lunch we went to the bowling alley. It was 10 pin. It cost 90 baht for 2 shoe rentals, and 1 sock rental. I was wearing my flip flops... Then a game was 55 baht each. We played 2 games.. so 55x4=220+90=310= approx $10 US. We walked around the mall for a bit, then walked back to the hotel.
I fell asleep at 7:00pm, and Tris wasn't long after. About 30 min after Tris fell asleep we heard a knock. We couldnt figure out what it was. So tris went to the door and it was the front desk giving us the wireless password haha.
We are heading back to Bangkok today.
