We arrived early in the morning having taken the night train from Chiang Mai. The train was so so, we had seating so it was a little better than taking the bus! We arrived at the station at 7.00am and were greeted by a huge gold statue of a monkey with the hugest balls, sorry, there is no easy way of writing it!
So we jump off only to be greeted by tuck tuck drivers. We knew where we wanted to stay, a hotel that is said to be the playground for the monkeys as they run and swing on the window bars. No idea where it was, we decide to take a bicycle cart sort of thing each, costing 30 baht each. As we sit in and get ready to suck in the scenery, the guy stops and says we are here! What? It was only 3 min along the road, in fact it would have been quicker to walk as he had to wait for a minute to cross the road! Damn, sold down the river again! In fact, we had a laugh about it, Linda and I, we should have known better!
We check in to the hotel, pretty drab, not much, in fact no atmosphere but had a TV, air con, hot water and clean sheets! We shower then the monkeys came to play by our window, running and jumping all over on the mesh that separates us from them!
After breakfast we decide to see the temples which had monkeys, this lasted 15 min, seen one monkey, you seen them all. Then off to another temple then spent the day walking around window shopping.
On the way back to the hotel in the afternoon, there were hundreds on monkeys running in the road and heading for our hotel, all the cars drove slow and monkeys ruled for a brief moment. They all sat on out roof and mesh chasing each other and fighting and making sweet love at random!
That evening was spent walking around the night market and dinner then a good night sleep!
