River Temple
This is the other temple that you can take a ferry from to get to Koh Kred.
Koh Kred is a small, carless island in the middle of the Chao Phraya river known for its beautiful pottery. We enjoyed visiting the island on our last trip and so decided to return for our last afternoon in Thailand. Shortly after arriving on the island by ferry, J stopped to take a picture of a passing long-tail boat. The driver slowed down, then stopped in front of us. He wanted to take us for a ride around the island, that much was clear even though he spoke no English. He ended up calling someone on his cell phone that spoke barely more English to negotiate a price and length of time with J. Once that was settled, we were whisked away in the fastest long-tail yet for a quick race around the island!
Once we were back on land, we wandered through the narrow alleys exploring the many shops. The island had recently been flooded and there were still some areas full of water unfortunately. The people were happy to have visitors and eager to make sales. We wanted to see one of the wats (Thai Buddhist temples) we visited on our last trip, but realized it was a
longer walk than we anticipated. Luckily, there are plenty of motorbike taxis on the island so we each hopped on the back of one (me riding sidesaddle in my skirt) and sped through the labyrinthine corridors at breakneck speed. It was exhilarating! We would definitely reccomend this island as a great half day in Bangkok; it's such a chilled out area in the middle of a bustling city.
