This week I’ve just been getting back into the swing of things after a great weekend. On Friday the school invited us over for ginger duck and Kareoke. The soup was excellent and the Keroke vidoes looked like someone shot it in 5 seconds. They had cheesy stories and looked like the build up you’d see in some cheesy romantic video. My new dream is to be a Kareoke director. Maybe if teaching doesn’t work out.
Saturday we went into Taipei. It takes us 40 min to get in using the bus and the subway. The subways are so nice, and so clean! You are not allowed food on the subway and everyone ques in line to get on, rather the swarming the door.
So we went to an Australian sports bar called “Brass Monkey!” WE FOUND OUT WHERE ALL THE FOREIGNERS ARE!!! They’re in Taipei!! We got some good grub and off to the first bar. The first bar was a hooka bar. It was good and pretty cheap. We met some of the other reach to teach teachers as best we could but its hard to mingle when everyone is sitting. The other Sansia teachers left early because the subway stops at midnight, so Lisa and I were left to fend for ourselves; so we did what any other socially awkward girls do. We drank. A few shots and drinks later and we got an invite from a few other teachers to go to another bar.
The other bar was pretty lame but they had two for one drinks. We thought there would be more dancing, but no one was dancing, so we did what any other person who can’t start a dance floor did, we drank. A lot! Bye the time we realized it was 3:30 am. Some of the other teachers invited us to another bar that “doesn’t get good until 4am.” extremely intoxicated, we declined.
We cabbed home feeling that we gaver’ pretty hard. To tell you the truth we didn’t giver’ as hard as the people in Taiwan usually do. Some night they drink till 5am go somewhere and eat, then catch the subway home at 6 am when it opens!
Taiwan has very very relaxed drinkng laws, so as long as the bar is open, alcohol can and will be served.
Oh yah teaching..Teaching is going well. Its getting easier everyday. Its rewarding to see them understand concepts ( I say understand loosely) but they’re really smart for how young they are! I know next week it will be easier.
I also got notice that I passed my RCMP written entrance test.!! Yeah!!!
Feel free to write me about anything that is happening in Ottawa or other places!
Till Next time - Jenny
