Hello Everyone!!
Not much is new. Just getting more into the routine of Teaching. I've just bought a lot of stickers ( a good bribing tool). I also bought some new slippers, and have managed too put my orthotics in them ( I still consider myself cool). Before I was wearing my running shoes and all the kids took notice and kept pointing at my shoes and making note I was wearing running shoes. I felt as though this was goofy because it put me with the level of the kids (who also wear running shoes) So some nice new slippers to assert Teacher Jenny's dominance over the students.
We are looking forward to the weekend. This means that it’s the start of CHINESE NEW YEAR! Which means a week off school! Because of Chinese New years there have been lots of fire crackers randomly going off to scare away the evil spirits. Also its important that one pays off debts owed before Chinese New years arrives, so because of this we get paid early, and we also have to pay our landlmaster our damage deposit.. So it works both ways!
This past weekend the head guy at our
school took us out for Chinese New Years. We got a sweet bus to take us around Taiwan. Of course on the bus there was Kereoke. To me all the Kereoke sounds the same, all slow songs with cheesy videos whose main formulas include slow motion shots and hair blowing in the wind.
So our first stop was this old street where we walked around and looked at all the food vendors. I also saw the first cat since I've been here! After that back on the bus for none other then more Kereoke.
Our next stop was Yehilou geopark. Yehliou is famous for the rocks which have been shaped over millions of year by wind, waves, and rain. The rocks here are more than 200 million years old! The mushroom rocks are a result of the water erosion undercutting the upper dryer sections. The most famous rock is the Queens head. Pictures of these are what is posted here on the blog.
After Yehliou back on the bus for more Kereoke, this time the English teachers sang some English songs they had available. It was hilarious. All 6 of us were singing - horribly. We sang songs such as
Sweet Caroline, which is pretty upbeat and it didn't match the Keroke videos.
The next trip was the hotsprings where with some more Kereoke we got a very delicious 6 course meal. We played games and our table won, (even though the game was in Chinese and we had no idea what we were doing or saying.) After the games there were prizes and I won a red envelope. After the hot springs some more Kereoke as we headed home.
It was a very nice trip and the geopark reminded me of something out of a science fiction movie.
So just looking forward to the weekend. Monday we head out to Kenting for some beaches and sun!! There's also some other crazy things will be doing, but it won't be told until the next blog post.
So stay tuned.
Until next time...
Jenny
