On our way...Just getting on the flight to Taipei. Thank God for sleeping pills!
Yes!!! We landed in Taipei. Considering we just flew about 14 hours, it’s terrific how neither one of us is feeling it right now. Just to be safe, in case there’s any lingering anti-US sentiment, David wore bright red shoes and a bright red shirt with a white pullover over it…basically he looked like a giant walking Canadian flag! He also carried around (and actually read) Frank Rich’s The Greatest Story Ever Sold just in case anyone was looking for safe non-political conversation topics (insert message here.) Hopefully the Thai people will continue to think we’re just retarded…and not American.
On our flight in, we stayed up just long enough to have a surprisingly good dinner (Billy wishes he had gotten David’s vegetarian Indian dishes [yes, 2 delicious Indian meals!]) and dozed off for what felt only like 2 hours, but in actuality was 6.
We sat in Premium Economy, essentially a step above coach replete with wider seats. Of course we were seated behind 2 screaming Chinese twin babies and their awkward parents. Their bloodcurdling screaming was nonstop. Oddly enough, the identical little monsters grew on us and it seemed the more we made funny faces at them,
the more they stopped crying. Actually, we think the passengers were ready to give them to us as our de-boarding gift…but since we promised you all we would only come home with Cambodian babies, we had to pass. Plus, we want to leave room in our carry-ons for shopping, not babies!
It’s still so bizarre looking at all these stores (in the Taipei airport) and these different people and realizing already how far from home we actually are. Pretty cool stuff. We are so looking forward to landing in Bangkok! Hopefully all the skeevy-looking Americans hicks surrounding us at the gate here aren’t going there to participate in the sex trade, especially the fat one with his back to us who peed all over the bathroom floor and didn’t clean it up. Yay…good times!
We stopped and ate dim sum, because there’s nothing more amazing than Chinese appetizers in China (Taiwan)! We also met a couple from Santa Barbara (sheesh, it’s a small world)…that’s it for now…until Bangkok!

Gotta love premium economy!! I hope your flight to Bangkok is much quieter. And you're right ... chinese food in China is so much better. Keep having fun.
David - love the Canadian dress. Way to be incognito....
Much love ... vic
So glad the first flight was easy. You already sound like seasoned travellers. Fun travelling with kids, isn't it? If anyone could entertain those babies, the two of you have plenty of experience with your nephews to do the trick. Can't wait to hear what follows.
You didn't get the upgrade to business class? :-( BUMMER!! Well, sounds like you had a lot of fun with the screaming babies and such, so it all worked out in the end.
SO excited that you guys made it and are off on your big adventure!!
You guys, this is great! I feel like I'm along for the ride. Thanks for including us on your journey, I love all the details (especially the airplane Indian grub). ENJOY!!!
The business class comment was from me, of course. I was so distraught that I forgot to leave my name. :-)
