Our last day in Sri Lanka was spent at Ranweli hotel. It was just right. Just enough nature, just enough conveniences for the tourist. We rode on a small floating wooden pad to get to the hotel. A very aesthetically pleasing path lead us to the entrance where we were greeted. What a sight for sore eyes! This place was beautiful. Everything overlooked the ocean. The bar, the restaurant, each cottage had an amazing view. We attended a few very impressive lectures on biodiversity in the morning. Professor Kule handed out our certificates of participation at the end. THIS WAS AN AMAZING TRIP. It was a once in a life time experience, and I was very impressed with how well we were taken care of. All the professors made us feel so welcomed in their beautiful country, that all I have been talking about since I have arrived back home is--Sri Lanka. I want to thank Professor Jon Pearce for all his hard work, (and patience). I am a pretty picky person, and can easily find flaws in everything, but I can honestly say that I do not know how this trip could have been planned any better.
Our good-byes were sad, but I think that everyone was ready to head back home. I looked forward to 24 hours of flights. Luckily, all flights went well, and all were on time. My luggage made it back safely, and I couldnt wait to give all my family and friends their Sri Lankan gifts. I put all my souvenirs in a big plastic bag, and held on to it tight the entire way back. These little memories were so important to me, I wanted to make sure that they would not get lost or damaged if I would have put them in my luggage. You can only imagine what I looked like trotting around the other side of the world with my huge backpack and holding on to this huge white plastic bag. Oh, let's also mention that my next flights went to London (cold!) and Chicago (cold!) and I was wearing shorts and flip-flops. "Where are you coming from?'' other tourists would ask. I so proudly would say: Sri Lanka.

I'm proud of you
I enjoyed reading your blog. It brought back lots of memories for me, too. I was a little worried that you weren't having a good time (memories are always better than reality) but I also thought that you were probably getting the most out of this trip. In a sense, you came the longest way, both geographically and culturally. I think your blog was great, too. It shows that you really absorbed a lot of what happened and you processed it into your own words. So where too next?
