Hey again everyone. So we spent our fourth day at Hortons plains. We were unsure of going to this location because it meant that we had to get up at 5 am to catch a jeep (see pictures) to drive us an hour to get to the location. Alas we convinced the girls in our group that it would be a good idea to do this. The whole idea of this location is to get to a place called "The worlds End" where the plains in the area come to a 0,7km drop off. To me this sounds great and would make for a great view, but on the way there it was very cold and rainy. We were all very worried that it wouldn't be clear enough to see anything. But we took the hour drive in our beat down Jeep (which made us feel like soldiers, not that I can compare). And when we got there the rain had ended :). Once in horton plains the jeep dropped us off and we had to make a 9km hike. 4 km to the World's End and and other 5km through the plains where there are water falls.
We trekked along
through the plains (it was more like Jungle if you ask me) at 7 am all the while lhaving my friend Katie be grumpy that she hadn't gotten her coffee. After quite the adventurous hike we got to the world's end and boy was the view ever worth it. I've been to the alps and have not seen anything like this before. It was great because of all the rain you could see clouds forming in the valley and rise out of the hills into the sky!
We stopped and took a break here for a while. After our break we pushed on into a a less travelled path . After 15min of bush whacking we stopped and turned around. One of my friends stopped to take a picture of a beetle and then I noticed an elk coming up to us on the path. so I yelled Elk! everyone looked except here. then the elk thought it would be a good idea to make friends with her. And he walked up and as he did my friend looked up and the elk kissed her! I'd say she's pretty lucky, i've never kissed an elk before.
After a good laugh
we pushed on towards the waterfalls. This involved a lot of climbing through the bush and up slopes that were covered in mud. Lucky no one feel doing this. We found a path that led down to the water falls. We headed down to take some pictures and I thought it was just the right temp to take off my shoes and walk into the water. After getting my shoes off an other friend climbed in with me. We took some good
pictures out in the water with the falls in the background. Now my friend was being impatient and wanted to get out of the water. On her way out she slipped and fell, completely submerging herself in the water! Wow was that great to see. We've got pictures of three of us then just two people then 3 again.
After hiking the other 3km back out to the jeep (Sharon carrying her soaking wet pants) we started our 11 hour journey down the coast line to Unawatuna beach for some time in the sun.
Red Lobster!Really not red lobster. It's just the sign. They did have good sea food here. we ate dinner at 11pm
