The real reason
As more and more friends of mine pour into Korea I wonder how this craze all started. I base it on the principal known as the ‘butterfly effect’. If you don’t already know, this effect explains how the flapping of a butterfly’s wings can start a hurricane half way across the world. With millions of chain reactions which support and magnify the initial flap people try to use this concept to explain many things. Today, I am going to use this concept, not for what it was intended, but in the way that when one person makes your day, you turn around and help another person, and so on. Who is this butterfly? How can a simple creature help change the lives of so many people scattered all over this great world? Simple. The butterfly is 6 foot 5 and has blond hair.
The biggest reason I am even in Korea is because of friend of mine who had the guts to bridge North America to Asia for the rest of us. Paved the way, so to speak. Unfortunately this solo traveler passed away last week. His adventurous personality and spontaneity made us all envy him. He changed our lives with random cheesiness or conjured up nights of debauchery. Every time I hesitated to do something, only one thing urged me to go forward and that was Jeff. He can be remembered for his stories and his random ideas, in all situations. Life was a playground and he didn’t stick to just the swings. There was never a dull moment and everyone was encouraged to join.
If we ever meet a man so inspiring again, it will have to be in another life time. And even then, Jeff will still be there to rival it.
RIP J.D.R. Brown. Not just Brown by name, but Brown by reputation.
