Where to even start... It's been over six months since my last blog entry and it has been a roller coaster ride. I have suffered through near crippling back pain that basically locked up my entire left leg. It left me bed ridden and miserable for most of the summer. As a result of this I was told I was being replaced at my job and I thought my time in Korea was over. As I dealt with pain I also dealt with my director and, how should I put it, her ruthless cultural and business practices. I was coerced into working more overtime hours, and at one point she refused to give me my passport back. My mom left a comment on the last blog asking about the size of Busan in relation to Geochang. Busan is massively bigger than Geochang. The populations are 3.65 million to 50,000, respectively. As for crime, I am not sure of official statistics, but I have not felt unsafe or in danger at any point so far, nor have I been the victim of any crime or theft. Geochang is so small it never crossed my mind, and in Busan I was with a group of people with a few drinks in me so again, never thought much of it or felt in danger at any point. Well I am still alive, but only just barely. For breakfast on Wednesday morning I cracked a couple of eggs and ignored the slightly pungent odor they emitted. Big mistake. I made it through Wednesday ok, but Thursday morning awoke with a churning stomach feeling pretty sick. I made it to the school only to vomit and nearly pass out. Shin Teacher took me to the hospital where I got some medicine to calm my stomach. They took some blood to make sure it wasn't something more serious and a couple hours later I got diagnosed with gastroenteritis, probably a form of salmonella. Two days of a violent, angry stomach, I was barely able to eat any of the food Mommy Teacher sent over at night with Shin Teacher and on Friday some students. It's Sunday ... read more
