Last Friday, we got word that a new teacher was coming so I figured we'd meet up with her that night since I remembered my first night in Pohang and how disoriented I was...I didn't even know where the school was the next day and I had to be there! The new teacher came too late though (too late = 11pm) and I was too tired to even go out and see her. Fridays basically suck the life out of me so I wanted to just sleep.
The next day, Cindy and I picked up the new teacher, Bobbie, and took her out to lunch. She still seemed a bit disoriented and didn't want to be the one to decide on where to go for lunch so I decided to go to the rice porridge place called 본죽 (Bon Juk). I'd been wanting to eat there ever since I saw that Kim Bum and Kim So Eun were advertising for them.
(Side note: I LOVE the series Boys Over Flowers and pretty much anything that reminds me of it, I have to try or do! There was a rice porridge shop in the drama where Geum Jan Di worked
Dr. Oh's office
free eye exam and trial contact lenses! and this chain has been advertising for the drama since forever ago!!)
We were going to go to downtown Pohang again, but postponed since Bobbie was supposed to be at work by 3pm. We got juk and it was sooo goood!!! Pretty much like arroz caldo but I especially liked this spicy garlic topping that you can add. Went to work to drop her off, but ended up talking and asking our boss questions. It's hard to catch him during the week and we're so busy with classes that there's no time to talk. I told him I wanted to go to Mt. Seorak for a weekend and do the hike there and he suggested an awesome resort with a water park!! I will definitely look into it for the fall.
Turns out that our boss wanted to take out the new teacher for a meal, but we already took her out to lunch!! So our plans for the day changed...I asked our boss about going to the eye doctor the week before since I need new contacts (my supply from Japan is running low) so he took us to Dr. Oh who turns out to be our
boss's wife's friend's husband (did you catch that?). Having connections definitely helps because we were able to meet with him that day and I got the eye exam for free and a free pair of trial lenses that I'm supposed to try for a week. I'm going back to Dr. Oh on Monday so he can hook me up with a prescription.
After the eye doctor, our boss decides we're going to Gyeongju for dinner! For those blog readers from the past, I've
been to Gyeongju before on my last trip to Korea, but everyone else hadn't been there so I didn't mind tagging along. It's about a half hour drive away so it's not too far. During the drive there, my boss was playing Big Bang and 2NE1 in his car and I was super excited!! I LOVE Big Bang and even knew some of the songs so I sang along. I think my boss was surprised....but now he wants us to go to noraebang (karaoke) and sing some Big Bang songs together...lol. He even let me borrow his cds so I could burn them.
We weren't too hungry yet when we got to Gyeongju so our
boss took us to Bulguksa Temple. He also got us Chinese zodiac bracelets according to the year we were born. It was nice to see the part of the temple that was under renovation when I went there last time, but also the trees and plants were pretty dead so it didn't look that pretty. I'll have to go back when the cherry blossoms open up in a couple weeks.
We ended up going to the Hilton in Gyeongju because they have a buffet there. It was pretty good, I tried a little bit of everything. The LA galbi short ribs were the best though...hehehe.
More to blog about soon...it's been a crazy busy week at work and I've been sick too...so glad I have health insurance here though ^_^
