In case I have not said it yet, WELCOME FALL!!! The leaves are changing colors... There is a bite to the air... The rain cools the skin... All signs of Fall are making their appreance. I stand here looking out at the black night and am so greatful to be alive. To be witnesses so much life and to have the capacity to love. The awareness to know that I love. To feel with all of my senses and witness. Gratitude.
Tonight was such a great night with my students I just had to share. First of all, I had one student in my class who stumbled through sentence after sentence turning to her friends and constantly asking in Korean for the translation of Korean words, but tonight, before class she came to me to show me an eye that she had drawn. She exclaimed, “I am a great artist.” It was true. She is so talented. I told her that later I hope we draw together. All of a sudden in class she just started speaking in practically fluent English. The fluidity of her speech was remarkable. At one point we were talking about character strengths. She labeled herself a peacemaker. She said that when people make fun of her, she is okay; she held her hands up like she was holding a hand of cards ready to play poker. She made the action of dealing them out as she said, “I deal my own flaws.” She was talking about how she has such strength and confidence that she takes what other people deal out to her and then she can throw her own flaws back at them. Brilliant.
-A student was talking about his confidence, especially when giving presentations and then he said, “I build my own road.” So good.
-One student was referring to the power of height. He said that many buildings are built for average height. Then he said, “I am tall enough to enjoy life.” Beautiful.
It was such a great set of classes. I am so proud of my students.
I found out today that I can go to India for Christmas and New Years. I am beyond excited. I received an email from a friend last night about heading to India, but I had accepted the impossibility because my coteacher and I had already discussed the trip. I was told that I have to work English camps in the winter. The email sparked something in my though and I remembered last winter and when the English camps were: The first 3 weeks of January. Perfect. I could go and come back. Everything would be fine. I told this to my coteacher and he okay-ed it!!! Wooooot!!! Elation.
