I had it in my mind after two weeks of rain that washing my clothes was going to be an absurd challenge because there is no breeze to dry my hanging laundry and dryers just don't exist here... So I asked a Korean friend of mine what he does in the summer during monsoon season and he explained that he uses a fan... So I was in the process of making time to go to EMart and buy one... Luck was on my side though and while I was at my local lil mart by my house I spotted fans for sale. I told someone that I wanted to buy one and they freakn put it together at the store, which was sooo great and hilariously awkward to carry home. I love people...
Rain here is amazingly beautiful and a giant pain in the ass. I am without rain boots and if I wear my sneakers they are soaked and need to dry for two days. I only have two pairs so that can't get me through a week. I thus resolved to wear flip flops, which are slick as can be and I slide around at least a few times a day, but I guess there is a certain thrill to it. My feet get soaked and the ground isn't exaclty sparkly clean, but luckily every day at the yoga studio I give the old dogs a good washing. I really want goulashes... Maybe they exist in the US in my size... I went to EMart, but couldn't find em... I guess I could do the Croc thing, but I think they are ugly, even though most of my friends here sport them. I can't handle em.
English yoga has started. I have one student as of right now. She is a really cool lady that I met while I was at Boryeong Mud Festival... Which I need to write about now^^
So Boryeong was insane. I went with 180 people (mainly foreigners, some Koreans). We split up 90 people to a house. I ended up at the bigger house. The party house as luck would have it, which ushered in at least 200 people through the night. We arrived Saturday afternoon, after a looong bus ride that included three stops for pee breaks because when we left Daegu at 7:30am some people had already started the party. There was norae bang (karaoke), drinking, harmonica playing, rapping, beat boxing, dancing, eating, and very little sleeping. When we arrived I headed to the basement of the house and did some yoga. It felt awesome. I told my friends I would meet up with them later. When I walked the beach (the whole thing) I stumbled upon a group of three women doing a Vinyasa Flow class. I asked to join and they were cool with it. While I was practicing a friend came up that I knew was going to be at Boryeong, but that I hadn't come with. It was hilarious to see him... Especially while I was with random people on the beach without any sort of mat doing crazy intense yoga. It started to rain just as the session was ending. I met some friends for lunch and the rain from that point on was pretty much constant. We all headed back to the house and I met up with the vegan chef and helped her, her gf, and friends prepare the veggie meal... It was really yummy. I met some great people for sure. Then we all heard that Girls Generation was playing at the main stage... I climbed with a friend and sat ontop of a veranda, but many people started to join us and the veranda started to shake. Once we realized that Girls Generation was not going to play, we took off back to the house. I was drawn to the roof when I heard the fireworks and got to see the beautiful finale huddled under an umbrella, enjoy the beauty of the rain and light art. Trying to sleep in the house was a joke that started in the basement and ended in the upstairs room. We were all eaten alive my mosquitos. It was brutal. Most of my friends had around 60 bites. People were getting pissed and squashing them against the walls. The walls were literally splattered with blood. The DJ didn't stop until around 6am. It was crazy. I was up at 8:30am and helped clean up for like an hour and some change. It was ridic rainy. We we soaking wet and the place was trashed. Then my friends and I headed out to lunch before busing home. It was a grand experience, but too short. I learned that in the future I want to sleep at the quiet house.
I went to a tea meditation on Thursday night. It was awesome. I went with two friends to this Buddhist meditation school in the middle of Siji. It is really unassuming. We ate tons of food and drank lots of yummy tea. The monk was really open and warm and calm. It was a great energy to be around.
