Well, I am sitting at home at 5:40pm with an unknown number of stitches in the back of my head instead of in Daegu with my fellow yogis or even on Ulleung-do or Dok-do. This is because of a series of unfortunate events actually, that I am still processing. Let's backtrack to Wednesday. The day before the Ulleung-do trip. I needed to get food for the trip, sea sickness medication, cash, and I needed to fix the flat tire on my bike from Tuesday night. I did all of it. As I was riding my bike back from yoga on Wed. night it started to rain. Sweet. I get home and finish packing. I set my alarm for 5:40am. It is raining in the morning, but I taxi at 6am to the Gyeongsan train station and take the train to Daegu station and then a taxi to the Gyeongsangbuk-do Board of Education. I was there for a half an hour before boarding the bus. We sat on the bus for 15 minutes only to be told that the ferry from Pohang would not leave port so the trip was cancelled for the day and rescheduled for June (which is absurdly soon).
The bus drove everyone to the Daegu train station and I went with a friend back to Gyeongsan and to a movie: Coraline (Tim Burton: Alice and Wonderland meets the Nightmare Before Christmas. Goodness. It was in Korean, which was even better.) Then I headed to the yoga studio and had crazy stomach pains. We played cat and mouse in body design and ran like crazy. I got a blood blister on my toe. I'll post a pic. This is the second time it has happened in the same way. Argh. I went home super sleepy, but have been sleeping poorly with the windows open, which I refuse to close because I am afraid of the smoke still. I think it may actually be coming from my bedroom. Monday we will try and sort that mess out. So that brings us to Friday and me working. School was fine. I ended up teaching my class the same information because no one told me we had learned it already. awesome. I had the worst cramps in life towards the end of the day. I went into the yoga room with a bunch of teachers and just layed on my stomach. It was awful. At yoga the cramps dissappeared. I looove yoga. I ended up teaching body design, which was really fun. We did a pretty intense series. I came home and crashed and slept poorly and then woke up and headed to the studio. While I was prepping for CST (Cranio-Sacral Therapy) I was squatting and my blood blister burst. I cleaned up the floor and washed my foot off. Then we had our CST sessions and were getting ready to leave. I crawled under the front desk to get my bag (I have done this a hundred times before) and I misjudged where the counter ended. I stood up and the counter was above me. I hit it really hard. Everyone asked if I was okay. I said yea and went to sit on the couch. I felt something trickle down the back of my head. I figured it was sweat, but I have seen enough movies and heard enough stories of this happening to people, so I stood up and went to the locker room and checked and sure enough, blood. cool. So I walked back to the counter and asked Yaltren if he could look and see how bad it was. He called the owner over after seeing it and the owner said I needed stitches. Uuuuugh. I was hoping he was wrong. We went to a clinic, not a hospital (which is cool and def diff than I am used to in the US) and it took about 30 minutes to see the doctor. Very typical in the US too. I didn't have my insurance card on me, but that was okay. As I was sitting and waiting I was getting a little stressed. I had flash backs to when I was 5 or 6 and a group of nurses held me down to stitch up my finger. Yaltren came with me and translated/kept my mind occupied. Such a great friend. When it was time I went and saw the doctor. He spoke English really well. He looked at my cut and said I needed stitches. He pulled out one of those teloscopic camera things and showed me the back if my head where the cut was. I almost threw up. It was so gross. My head was just split open and there was blood and **put hand over mouth** Not okay. So I just told him okay and to please do whatever was necessary as long as I didn't have to see. I went back out to the waiting room while they prepared another room. A really nice nurse led me back to the room. She held my hand almost the whole time I was in the back. It was suuuuuch a comfort. The body contact took my mind off of my head and my broken Korean was pretty handy. The Dr. shaved part of my head and cleaned out the cut and injected a local anaesthetic. He stitched it up and then left. One of the nurses injected my butt with an antibiotic and then they led me back to the waiting room. I was given a pain killer, antibiotic, and stomach pill for the next three days. I really wanted to go back to yoga, but I had to put pressure onto the wrapping for the next three hours. Yaltren then took me to the pharmacy and bought me toast. It was my first time trying toast : ) So good! Toast is toasted white bread with egg, sweet pickles, carrots, cabbage, and maybe mustard and sweet and sour sauce or thousand island-y sauce. All I know is that is was bomb. Maybe it was because it was 3:30 and I hadn't eaten since 8am, but regardless, I liked it. We went back to the studio, which was almost empty and hung out for a little while waiting for a massage session to finish so that we coul dhead back to Gyeongsan. And that is exactly what happened. So now I am home and I just made dinner. I am not allowed to shower till Monday. No alcohol for a week. No headstanding or handstanding. I can do yoga, but I need to be careful. Holler.
