Singapore was founded as a British trading colony in 1819. It joined the Malaysian Federation in 1963 but separated two years later and became independent. It subsequently became one of the world's most prosperous countries with strong international trading links (its port is one of the world's busiest in terms of tonnage handled) and with per capita GDP equal to that of the leading nations of Western Europe. And so we reached our final stop on our 5 month World tour - Singapore, where we stayed for 4 nights before flying back home. We hadn't thought much about Singapore in advance as it was the very last place we were visiting, and we didn't have a guidebook, so we weren't really sure what to expect. Once we did eventually get a guidebook at Cairns airport it mentioned that Singapore had previously had a bit of a reputation as being dull, this is certainly not our experience of the City State. Singapore is a smallish island off the southern tip [View Full Entry]

Been a hectic week, so much going on I can't even think where to begin. I had a horrible yes horrible job working a PROMO (which really i think they shouldn't hire models unless the models are with a promotional agency) handing out cards sprayed with a new Chloe perfume. I don't care how much they were paying it didn't help that I was in killer heels on a new shiny surface, being scorned at by grouchy old women and "larger" ladies and I swear I now have RSI from spraying that damn perfume so much. Michael came down to laugh [View Full Entry]

Day Eight October 9, 2009 I awoke this morning very excited about my day. You see I was going to make a new friend and one of the joys of my life is meeting new and interesting people. Before I left for Singapore a friend of mine from High School that I had recently reconnected with via facebook had told me she had a friend that had moved to Singapore about a year and half ago that was from our home town in Massachusetts. I had emailed Heidi from Atlanta and she had given me some great tips on things to [View Full Entry]

Day 7 Thursday October 8, 2009 I awoke around 8:00 this morning and was excited to catch Talia on line so that we could at least chat through gmail since my skype is having some issues. Richard's is working fine so if anyone wants to reach us the weekend will work well. I ordered my usual light breakfast and planned my day. I still had not seen the Merlion which is the symbol of Singapore. Half lion / Half Fish. I planned out a walk for the day to take in the Sculpture walk the Merlion and to end at the [View Full Entry]

Singapore We arrived in Singapore late and made our way to Mt Emily guest house. The first night all 5 of us crammed into one small room, it was fun! We enjoyed shopping down Orchard Road and I was so stocked to find all the London shops that I love. Mum and Dad introduced us to Moss Burger a place that does yummy variations of burgers including a salad burger and a rice burger. We all enjoyed it and thought it would do really well in New Zealand. It been so handy having Scott living in Singapore because he knows all [View Full Entry]

Location: Singapore, Sentosa Island, Pulau Ubin Length of Stay: 11 days Cost per Day: $ 42 Lamborghini's, Maserati's, Ferrari's.... amazing and everywhere... What an incredibly prosperous and dynamic city Singapore is and such a refreshing change after Bali... There is construction, redevelopment, restoration going on everywhere... and the city has an air of confidence and assuredness about it which is very infectious... It makes it a very attractive place to be... I was thinking... Singapore the country really only consists of Singapore the city + a few small islands... How easy i [View Full Entry]

Day 6 Wednesday October 7, 2009 After a good nights sleep I awoke and ordered coffee and French toast with a side of watermelon. I guess they had to go to France to get the bread because it cost $42 or about $30 US. Singapore is not for the faint of heart. I got myself ready for a big day. I was planning to head to the Botanical Gardens and the temperature was already reaching in the high 80's with a very high humidity level. I was lucky to grab a nice new cab out front of the hotel and had [View Full Entry]
