Singapore was founded as a British trading colony in 1819. It joined the Malaysian Federation in 1963 but separated two years later and became independent. It subsequently became one of the world's most prosperous countries with strong international trading links (its port is one of the world's busiest in terms of tonnage handled) and with per capita GDP equal to that of the leading nations of Western Europe. So much to say about this place, stayed a week and it was amazing. Went to an Island called Sentosa which was a little too touristy but still beautiful. Hot humid weather but still caught tan but also got caught in torrential downpours much to the amusement of the locals.... skirt went see through and everything but it beat the heat so I was smiling Not as many brits unfortunately (fortunately really cause got to meet the locals who were amazing and a good laugh) People kept taking photos, the toilets know when you've finished, the mrt (underground) is amazing (even [View Full Entry]

Pulau Ubin Asia » Singapore
Seems that this site is quickly becoming and ode to 'Graham's wacky adventures in Sinagpore'. But l guess that's what happens when you travel with only one other person... Here's yer man on one of the tracks in beautiful Pulau Ubin. No orange stack helmets here! It's a beautiful experience riding througn this forest, cocoanut trees over head, butterflies gliding beside you as you ride. Didnt' see any monkeys or wild pigs for that matter. We were told that if a pig charges at you, to remain perfectly stilll. Mmm. Sounds like a similar sinario to playing dead in the instance [View Full Entry]

I was lucky enough to have spent 5 days in Singapore, from the 23rd to 27th April. Work sent me there to attend a conference on child sex tourism and sex trafficking, which was from Monday to Wednesday, so I went down on Saturday to enjoy being a tourist there for a few days. The first two nights I stayed in Little India, at the Inn Crowd 2, this great little hostel, very friendly. I did however have to sleep in a room with 29 othe [View Full Entry]

Sri Mariamman Temple Asia » Singapore
Well, here's a pic of Graham, doing what he does best: posing. We're at an Indian temple called the Sri Mariamman Temple, in China town, irronically enough. That's one of the aspects of Singapore that l love, all the different cultures and religions all coexisting in such a small space. [View Full Entry]

Food Walk Asia » Singapore
As part of our stay at the BetelBox hostel, (awesome place), we were invited to go on a food walk. This was a 7 hour, (yes 7 hours) treck around Singapore, sampling the local cusine. Singaporians take alot of pride in their food, and I felt so fortunate to go on this walk, as l got to sample foods of flavous and textures that l would otherwise never have tried. Tony, our tour guide, also taught us about the different cultures, religions, (we also visited an Indian Temple), took us though the archetecture of Singapore and it's influences. We also visited [View Full Entry]

Here are some pics from downtown and around singapore's Island Pulau Ubin ([url=http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&searchtype=address&country=SG&addtohistory=&city=pulau+ubin]Map). Singapore has been fantasic so far.. People are really friendly and the food has easily been the highlight for me. On the first day the heat is the first thing you notice.. but after awhile you get used it it. Our hotel room on the first night was nice and it was close to the main part of the city (bugis).. After looking around awhile we decided to find a hostel.. On the way in from t [View Full Entry]

Day 9 & 10 Singapore Asia » Singapore
Day 9 & 10 in Singapore -final 2 days Paying our dues as real tourists Yesterday we just took it very slow at the hotel since the matter of sorting out Zak's mother's estate was out of the way - a new twist of circumstances made it possible to finish that off ahead of schedule. It was extremely hot outside... We wandered a bit more through Little India, looking for nice Indian textiles and sari's but in the end we decided to skip spending too much and just got lots of incense sticks . They smell through the whole Indian district, [View Full Entry]
