Our ferry to Langkawi couldn't have started better... coco pops and chocolate milk! Yum! This funnily enough became a conversation starter with an Irish couple that were also heading to Langkawi. They were laughing at us for eating our cereal out of the box and then the conversation began about the simple things we miss from home.
Once the ferry docked at Langkawi port we jumped into a taxi and headed to Cenang Beach. Most accommodation was fully booked but we found a nice no-frills motel for £12 a night. For the evening we prepared for a quiet drink and a relaxing meal but it couldn't have been more different! The Irish couple we met, Thomas and Leanne, were walking past when they invited us to join them and another couple, Stu and Rachel, for a drink. Everyone knows that the Irish can drink, Natalie couldn't keep up and was sick. We started playing these stupid drinking games and Chris had to crawl around the bar pretending to be a horse and ask if anyone wanted a ride! 3 Malaysian girls were chilling in the bar and they found it hilarious so they invited us to a party they were heading
to so we all went to this club called Eagle Rock with the 3 random girls. The place was full of the locals and we were having dance off's with them, it was one mental night! It was one of those nights when you wake up in the morning thinking what the hell happened?!
When we weren't sunbathing, we visited Malaysia's biggest aquarium and took a trip on the cable cars they have there which take you through the mountains and give you breathtaking views of the small Malay island. Chris held a snake and had his photo taken whilst we were here and we also tasted Cadburys chocolate for the first time in 2 months!
Chris unfortunately had a cold for a couple of days while we were here which he has now recovered from.
After a lovely week on the island we got a boat/bus ticket to Kuala Lumpur which took over 10 hours! And the fact the boat broke down out at sea didn't help speed things along.
In KL we achieved plenty of sightseeing such as the Petronas Towers and the KL Tower both of these look more impressive at night when they are lit up.
In the Petronas Towers was a Trafford centre style shopping centre but bigger and better, we spent many hours window shopping and making lists for when we get home.
Natalie is already planning how long it would take to save up for a pair Jimmy Choo's that she admired!
Back home we love to go to the cinema so as a little treat we watched Tower Heist which was in English but had Malay subtitles.
From KL we hopped onto a train to Singapore but it felt like we had headed out of Asia! Prices went up, the smells had gone and scooters were now cars and decent ones at that! Singapore is a country, a city and an island all rolled into one! Skyscrapers surround you as you walk around and each area has 4 or 5 shopping malls to suit every need! Not to mention the large quantity of McDonalds that can be found.
Our first dorm of the trip was at Cozy Backpackers Guest House and it wasn't too bad! People turning the light on half way through the night can be annoying as to is the snoring but you get used to it! We did change
to a private room however because it was only a pound extra.
On our first day we went for a stroll around the Marina and stumbled across the Singapore formula one track! As it is partly on public roads with the pit lanes tucked away, anyone is free to walk around! The names of the drivers above the garages hadn't been taken off either so we got some great photos!
That night we met up with Sandra, who is Nat's Mums cousins wife! She took us to a 70th floor bar with fantastic views of the city. Natalie had a posh Singapore Sling and Chris had a beer after a week of detox.
We were then taken to Raffles Hotel for tea where the food was great and we were introduced to Iced Kacang. A desert with sweetcorn on top isn't always a first choice for us but it wasn't too bad! It contained flavoured crushed ice, jelly and a few ingredients we hadnt seen before. We really appreciated Sandra taking time to show us around Singapore and taking us around the Asian Civilsation Museum, we thoroughly enjoyed it!
The next day we went to the botanic gardens which was
an underground train away! We were greeted at the gate by a moniter lizard, they apparently often appear around the gardens sometimes much bigger! It was nice to get away from the city for a while and relax by the Koi carp ponds, where turtles try to keep up with the fish!
At night we went to a huge arcade where we messed around on a few of the games including Natalie beating Chris at Mario Kart! Natalie refused to have a re-match!
We went to the zoo the next day which was really good! Monkeys run around freely at the park and there isn't cages for any of the other animals either! The hippos and the White tigers were definitely a highlight for us at the zoo and we can't wait for the Australia one now.
We are now in Cairns, Australia after two flights (which we weren't prepared for) and in a lovely place called Dreamtime Travellers Rest. Now we have just booked three dives in the Great Barrier Reef for Saturday 26th and we have also paid for our accomodation for the East Coast....a Toyota Yaris! Cozy! Keep checking the blog to see how that gets on.
