After arriving at 1am yesterday we caught a taxi to
HostelOne66 for a sleep. In the morning we decided to head into town on the MRT for a wander around some of the sights. (Koala-on-the move was a bit nervous, last time he was on an MRT in Shanghai he was stuck in the door!)
The Merlion was the first big hit on the list and the kids had a ball playing on the steps around the merlion and found lots of tiny seasnails. (Oh, and "no more photos!" has already started). From there we walked along the esplanade past the various war memorials to Raffles Hotel. By this stage we were hot and thirsty so decided to stop for the ubiquitous Singapore Sling at the Raffles Long Bar (which didn't have the no shorts, no sandals dress code that the hotel had).
1 Singapore Sling and 3 fruit juices and a small fortune later we continued into a shopping centre, found a supermarket and bought the makings of lunch. Then back on the train back to our hostel and time for a rest (lunch being at 3pm). A short rest, a little bit of homework and downstairs to
the hawker market for dinner before going to the Night Safari (night zoo). Our whole dinner was cheaper than the 1 Singapore Sling. Duck and rice, dumpling soup and satays. Delicious.
The Night Safari is fantastic! We got tickets for the tram ride which takes you around the majority of the zoo with commentary. A stop half way means you can do one of the 3 walks (the Leopard Walk) and get back on to go the rest of the way once you've finished. The kids were most impressed with the Giant Flying Squirrels which actually leapt across the aviary directly above us. I attempted to get a photo of the leopards but I'm not sure how it turned out as you couldn't use a flash. We were thinking about doing one of the other walks after the tram ride but Liam fell asleep on the tram and Kira was almost at that stage too so we decided it was time to come home to bed.
Today the kids want to go to th e beach so our aim is to get to Sentosa Island. I'll let you know how it goes :).
