After running around Hawaii...finishing up the remodeling of the house, having our friend watch over the lil' ones/acting as our landlord, getting roommates to cover the mortgage, trying to sell our Mini, gathering up all the necessary admin details, selling off most of what we own (again), packing, etc...we have embarked on our world trip. Although it's not exactly how we planned, ya kinda just have to go with the flow and take up opportunities that arise. So, our first leg of the trip will have us anchored in Singapore and employed...well, at least one of us for now.
July 1st, 2009, we woke up and spent every last minute tieing up loose ends around the house. We were finally able to exhale once we passed the security check at the Honolulu Airport. The past was behind us and now our minds needed to refocus on what was to be our future. We flew United/ANA through Narita, which split the trip up in two 7 hr flights. I don't forsee us having many visitors traveling over from the US!
We got into our room, here on Orchard Rd, at 2 am. Steve and I woke up at 6 am and headed down for the breakfast buffet. I don't normaly care for buffets but when traveling in Asia, it's the best b/c they cater to both Easterners and Westerners. My favorites this morning were jamon w/ pesto...strawberry/blueberry/peach danishes...baguette w/ nutella (individual portions of course but I'd never seen it in butter spread containers before)...steamed dumplings...and stir fried long rice...yummmm. The breakfast started out entertaining but was cut brief when Steve had to head out for a meeting. I stuck around for thirds (!) but it was a bit lonely eating by myself.
I looked around...realized that everyone else was eating alone and on business, by the look of their attire. I was in slippers, my "Lil' Miss Aloha" shirt and a pink mini-skirt that didn't really project a corporate image! When in Singapore, do as the Singaporeans do. Since I'd been here before, briefly, I knew to pack my nicer clothes so I'll have to get used to being back in heels. I did leave all my suits behind but they are ready to be sent out once I find a job.
More then likely, I'll have a whole lot of time to myself, doing what I love to do...people/enviornment watching. I wish Steve and I were both on holiday to share the days in discovery. It's so much more fun when we're exploring together~!
On the agenda this week...find potential housing, speak with the US Embassy regarding our status, get a lay of the land and transportation, eat delicious food/get back in the gym regularly, look into potential job avenues...oh and possilbly find time to window shop and work on a tan...
