6th - 12th oct 2008
Got on our train for singapore at 8am for an 8 hour trip. All the way we slept on and off... trying to sleep our hangover off... didnt work. ha.
We arrived at singapore train station at 4pm, Once there we started looking for the slip of paper which had our hostel address on it... couldnt find it newhere!!... All we knew was that the place was called
Empire hostel and with the place being only 2 weeks old this didnt help when we asked a taxi driver if he knew where it was... he didnt have a clue. So then we needed some cash but there were no cash machines at the train station. So off we went to the city to find a cash machine and a interent cafe so that we could find the address for the hostel we booked.
After walking for about an hour with our massive bags we finally found a cash machine. the next problem was trying to find a interent cafe.. there were none where we were becuase of it being a Business centre of the city all cafe had wireless... and we didnt ave
a laptop to use this wireless connection... so we caught a taxi and asked him to take us to the city centre... once there we sat and had a quick something to eat and drink we were completely knackered after walking 2 hours by now... Kirsty found it completely halarious that lewis with his own and some of kirsty's bags was getting pretty stressed that we were walking endlessly.
After having something to eat we found a interent cafe which was just across the road from where we had something to eat. Finally got the address to our hostel. whooooooop!
When we were walking around the place the place was totally amazing!! all high rise buildings shopping malls and restarunts...After getting the address we grabbed a taxi he knew the street but didnt know the hostel. We finally arrived at 7pm.
The place was brand new and we had to wait in the common room as the owner wasnt around. The place was really nice, modern, High ceilings, Black shanderlers, a big flat screen TV, nice leather sofa and chairs, a breakfast area and new showers and toilets. The place is still in the process of being
refurbished...
The owner finally appeared and handed us our keys for our room. When we booked there was only a twin room no double... The room we had was pretty small having just a Bunk bed in it. Which turned out to be pretty cozy having new sheets, quilts and pillows and it had Air Con... The bottom bunk ended out to be our Wardrobe and the top was our bed. It was like a mini den in there. hehe.
After dumpin our stuff in the room we headed out to get some food, we went to a chinese resturant. Kirsty had a chicken noodle soup which she had to eat with chopsticks.. This was her 1st chop stick meal she's had... As this was a Proper chinese resturant she had no choice because they didnt have any forks but she did pretty well. Lew had Sweet and sour chicken he manage well with the chop sticks.
The next day we woke early and got ready to go out and explore singapore... We circled alot on our map that we wanted to see. Started by having the free breakfast at the hostel which was toast, tea and
cereal. We walked to
Orchard road the street was filled with loads of shopping malls, they had every thing from designer to high street. Wished we had loads of money so we could have shopped till our feet dropped off as there was so much choice!! As we come out from one of the shopping malls it started to eplt down with rain! So we headed back into the mall and bought a umbrella. After about an hour it stopped and dried up...
After
Orchard road we had a short walk to
Exeter road and
Devonshire road How cool hehe a home from home. We then got a tube to the
Singapore Flyer this thing is the same as the london eye but bigger!! We then took a walk along the river which a had great veiw of the skyscapers towards the
Espalade a massive grey spikey round building on the riverside which is a Opera house. after we went to the
Merlion Statue which is a water fountain shaped as a half lion and half fish thingy....
We then walked to the
Suntec shopping mall which had in it the biggest water fountian in the world called the
Fountain of wealth it wasnt on at the time we were there but you could walk up to the centre of the fountain and make a wish. You had to walk around the middle part 3 times with your hand in the small water bit in the middle... After we had a walk around the mall and came across a Fish spa shop... Through the window you could see people with there feet in a fish tank with fish pecking away at their legs and feet. Lewis paid to have a go on the fish spa treatment... It didnt hurt but felt pretty wierd. at one point lewis had about 200 fish all on his legs more then anyone else in the tank, must of had pretty manky legs. hehe!
That same night we went to
Little india close to where we were staying and the whole place was decorated with bright lighted signs above the roads... they were celebrating a new year or something like that called Ayla i think... or i might be completely wrong. Had a indian meal there was really nice...
8th Oct 2008 We started today by going to the
Raffles Hotel for a famous
Singapore sling the hotel is the oldest in singapore... Lew had a lager and kirsty had the singapore sling... Kirsty thought that it would be a better experience then the one in thailand and it was!! haa it turned out to be very nice... The 2 drinks came to $44 thats about 16 quid... On our table in the Raffles
Long Bar was abox of Monkey nuts which you could help yourself too... And we did we ate loads!!! Making a small Mound of shells on our table.. After we finished the bar man just wipes the shells onto the floor... As you walk around in the bar your just crunching on the shells... This place was pretty funny!! haa.
At the night we went to
Clarkes Quay the place was amazing the whole quay lights up and has a load of bars, clubs, resturants and shopping malls... We had a Drink and a little something to eat in the
Hooters bar and then did a boat ride down the river passing though
Boat quay We saw the espalade and the merlion lite up... Pictures dont do this place justice at night... Its completely amazing and
jaw dropping seeing the High rise building all lite up...!!!
9th Oct 2008 We done a whole load of sight seeing today... starting at the Highest hotel in Signapore, We went to the very top which was the 70th floor... once up there we had amazing views of Signapore!!!
Early evening we went back to the fountain of wealth which was on this time!!... Took a couple of photos then went on to the riverside to get some views in the evening... Was amazing as the sun was setting and there wasnt many clouds in the sky.
We then went down to
Boat quay had our 1st singapore meal which was spicy noodles and spring rolls.. It was very very nice! the resturant we went to was right on the quay and was all lite up... At night in signapore alot of stuff lights up infact everything lights up with some kind of amazing coloured light...
The night we were trying to get to sleep when a girl next door to us which we named her 'Romper Stomper' because she could never do any thing quietly... She was stomping around all night we reackon that at home
all her ceilings are cracked because she's so heavy footed!!... We aslo called her Club foot... hehe!
10th Oct 2008 Today we went to
Sentosa Island we got a cable car to the island. we were high above the tree tops and had great veiws of the City. On the Island it has hoilday resorts, Resturants, bars, the Biggest Merlion the daddy merlion, a water maze which you had to be blind folded and helped though it it had water which were fired out from little holes and pools of water it looked pretty fun everyone was drenched! and a man made beach... They were also making a casino on the island which will be ready in 2010...
We went down to the Beach but couldnt sunbath or go in the sea because we didnt bring any Swin stuff... Was gutted because it was such a hot day!! after the beach we went on a little jungle trek. We saw loads of weird looking tree's and at end of the trek we came across an old war bunker and a platform where a cannon used to be...
Spent pretty much the whole day on the Island and after
headed back on the cable car and then back to the hostel to sort out our last night of accomidation... The guy had a room for us in the morning but it was going to be a dorm...
11th Oct 2008 We woke early because we had to move rooms for our last night. We were hopin we wasnt gonna be with Rompa Stompa or a guy called 'Desperado' another person we named as he try's to snake everyone lol..!!! We were sat on a step waiting to be shown our dorm and saw desperado going into one and then we were taken into another.. whoop hehe... It was alot bigger room then our last one with a window. It had 2 bunks in the dorm and one person already in it but didnt know who yet...
Planned to relax all day today. Watch Horton on DVD in the common room and then went out to get some food. Didnt want to just do nothing in the end so we got a tube to
China town Its a really lovely town with aload of lil chinese Boutiques and resturants just as u'd expect it to be... Not like
the one in K.L that place was like you were walking through Haldon market haa!!
We then found a temple called
Tooth relic temple we had to be dressed in robes because we had our legs and shoulders on show. Kirsty was soooo tighted because it had been put on by one of the guilds that she could hardly step over the steps into the place lol... As we went inside the whole place was Praying... with monks at the front playing instruments and singing into microphones. The place had 4 floors which had budda's etc all around.
After a day in China town we headed back to the Hostel we went to our room only to find...... Rompa Stompa!!! haaaa!! We got changed and went and had another indian... After the meal we went back and watched a couple DVD's with some of the others from the hostel... We watched one DVD called Teminal... It sooo funnny and should watch it if you havent already!!... We stayed up pretty late.
We went to our room and Rompa Stompa was already asleep. Our bed was right next to the window. You dont relise how busy and loud the road
is until you start to try and get to sleep in this room any way, our other room didnt have a window. Honestly this road doesnt sleep... it was buzzing like it does in the day it was like trying to get to sleep next to the M5 with all the lorry's, cars and bikes all stopping and beeping... We found this sooooooo funnny for some reason and couldnt stop laughing!! how was we ever gonna get to sleep hehe...
And so the end of our stay in Singapore.. We really enjoyed it here so much to see and do day and night. Parts of the city are really modern and others really tradtional. Loads of high rise buildings and look really nice day and night more at night when they are all lite up. Was really good for shopping if you had the money...Nice that the place had little india and china town makes your day and night seem like your somewhere else... They have every varitity of food you can think of... The place felt really safe and welcoming.... The hostel we were staying at was also really lovely and would defooo recommend it to anyone!...
And Kirsty got some Trolley wheels for her bag.. hehe no more hunch back! WHOOOOOP!!!
Gonnna miss Singapore and would come back any day!!!!
Next stop OZ!!!....
