In December we visited an exhibition called "The Art of Brick" by artist Nathan Sawaya (Pic 4). The artist builds sculptures using Lego bricks. His smallest ever was a tree, made of 2 bricks. His largest, an advertising billboard made of 500,000 bricks.
The Dinosaur Skeleton (Pics 5) - 80,020 bricks
Blue Guy Sitting (Pics 6) - 21,054 bricks
Step Ladder (Pics 7) - 4,054 bricks So the question is: How many bricks were used to make each of the sculptures in Pics A, B and C?
Points:
2 points per sculpture if your answer is within 500 bricks of the correct answer
and
1 bonus point to the person closest overall (total of the 3 sculptures). We've been here almost 7 months! In that time, we've had 6 + 2 half visitors from overseas. The 6 are those who stayed over: Colin, Maman, Gaspard, John, Phoebe and James. The 2 halves were those who visited but either slept on the plane: Nigel; or in a hotel: Chris.
Cynthia, Mirabelle and Victoria have also stayed of course, but they're not from overseas! What's interesting is to see what activities we discovered with each visitor, which were new, which we only did the once and which we've done time and time again! When Colin (Pic 8) arrived in December, we'd only been here 6 weeks so everything was new to us still too, including Orchard Rd malls. Still, the one mall we've taken every guest to (but 1 - Nigel was only here 12 hours so didn't get a chance) is Orchard Central (Pics 9), for the outside escalators, the landscaped garden on the 11th floor, the buildingwork late into the night at the back and the view of MBS from the 12th floor at the back. You'll see in the pictures the changes over the last 6 months. The National Orchids Garden (Pics 10) is another fabulous place. Phoebe and James missed out but Nigel managed a visit in his 12 hours here. When I went for the first time early in November, I said I'd be back with anyone willing to accompany me and so I've been 6 times so far! I'm not bored of taking pictures of orchids. Even after proclaiming he would never post boring flowers on FB, John relented! :-) So they're not that boring after all!! I love the colours in the Mist House and of course the Cool House. I love that there are pineapples growing and that the gardens are always so tidy and clean.
Someone mentioned a free show outside MBS every night of the week so we went to check it out one night with Tony, Cynthia, Nadine and Colin. What we saw was the amazing Wonder Full - The Light and Water Spectacular at Marina Bay Sands! (Pics 11) So we took Maman, Gaspard and Nigel afterwards. Unfortunately, John missed out. Because it's free, maybe John wasn't interested. The show lasts 15 minutes and is on 2 or 3 times a night. The location is stunning with the City as backdrop. The technical side of it is so impressive. You won't want to miss the visual effects with interweaving lasers, video projectors and giant streaming water screens! If you're there at the weekend, walk down towards Marina Bay MRT station to see if you can spot GoFly Kites - remote controlled Kites which light up (Pics 11).
Because we're still big kids at heart - Andrew and I still play board games every day/evening when the girls are in bed - I really wanted to see the "Art of Brick" (Pics 12) exhibition at the ArtScience Museum at MBS. See today's questions above. We went with Colin. Maman and Gaspard saw it also, but I didn't insist on going when John was here as I knew I wanted to do some blog questions and didn't want him to spoil my plans! ;-)
The learn more about Nathan Sawaya and his art, check out his really cool website on: http://brickartist.com
Some of these activities I've mentioned in previous blogs and some I haven't. Part 2 of this blog will feature other activities we did with Colin and new ones we discovered with other guests. These two blogs are adressed to those of you hesitating to come see us, whether through lack of time, money, organisation, forward planning or all of the above. I'm telling you, make the most of it whilst we've got space, time and the most perfect helper!
Part 2 to follow soon... Delphine
