All curious how things are going, so here we are finally with some news!
The plane travel Brussels – Frankfurt – Singapore went smoothly ( except for Skye throwing up during landing ) Happy kids and parents!
Singapore was HOT, and we were of course TIRED… despite this we found our way quite well. Once at the airport we took the metro to the Hostel laying in Little India. Metro transport is very well organized, of course we had to find our way in the beginning.
Little India was really being in India and we wondered how the other city parts looked like...?
The room in the hostel was ok, just beds, no table, nothing really, so that also meant quite some mess! Packing afterwards was not so fun.
The staff was really friendly, actually all people were very very friendly !! And of course they ( locals and tourists ) were in love with little Ask! Especially young Chinese women gave him a lot of attention, if this continuous we can earn a fortune on him with all these photos taken..😊 Breakfast was…very poor. Ask liked the cereals a
lot though.
Here the kids had to adjust their eating habits. Not an easy job for a parent, so what that concerns little India was maybe not the best choice, but luckily we, Stef and Jesper, enjoyed it! Not only the spicy food, but also the atmosphere. Unfortunately Liv’s stomach got worse since our departure ( I think something was going around in Belgium already) and she threw up at the breakfast table and also evening. This while I (Stef) started feeling slowly better in the stomach, even though I tasted all that spicy Indian food, I just couldn’t leave it but hey, it worked, here I am, fresh as one can be !!!! No more stomach trouble and even my muscle pains have disappeared ( without getting a massage..). Actually, my stomach feels better than before, and if you know me well, then you know that means a LOT !
The first full day in Singapore we thought we should see the center, still tired of course we headed after a fast decision ( we didn’t get to any planning ) to Orchard road. There we got an impression of a
clean city, tall towers, lots of shopping malls, not that many people, not too busy. We walked to the Botanical Garden ( I guess we were tired enough to want to avoid all the pace ) and we remarked that it is not that easy to just cross a street. Sometimes you stand at a crossing and the only way to get to the other side is by a tunnel (roltrappen) through a shopping mall and that took you like 10 minutes.
We had kind of promised the kids a tour in the Night Safari after the Botanical Garden but of course time flies and we realized that after this nice relaxing tour in the gardens we had to head back to the Hostel. Indeed, before we arrived there it was already 18H… Night safari impossible, hysterical Liv, so that meant we had to go to the… Zoo, the day after. We got there yes, after a metro and a bus, pffff, we thought it was a hop skip and a jump to get there… but it took like 2hours. So huphuphup now we needed to hurry up in the Zoo ( we also slept
long of course) because we had to move to our next destination: the bus terminal for the bus to Johor Bahru a cross the border in Malaysia from where we normally would have continued our travel to the North. So from the Zoo we took the taxi back and we thought we should have done that earlier… price was slightly higher than public transport but we gained 1h30.
In vain, we gained 1h30 by taking a taxi but we lost a lot of time really … we’ll be happy to tell you more in the next blog ‘Perhentian’.
