No lavish presentations, no posers. Yet, the best...
18th October 2008 was a memorable day for my best friend of 16 years and his wife-to-be. Friends since 1992, he was my buddy during our growing up years. The time spent at AMK Mcdonalds in the early days with Patsy and Zy till the Langkawi trip with his wife, it was my pleasure to be part of the growing experience.
The past 16 years witnessed the growth of our adolescence to adulthood, from fearful teenagers to confident adults. How many 16 years would you have in your life time? Certainly, for most of us, we had grown older and yet wiser in dealing with the challenges of life.
The day started early for all of us as I made my way to his flat at 8am. This morning, with the exception of me, the rest of the guys were from his "Band of Brothers' army to pick up his wife-to-be. I was the sole representative from his secondary era. Patsy couldn't make it for this morning as he was still grieving for his loved ones. Helping out in the brother's team was my first and possibly my final
experience. This was not an obligation but a privilege to share somebody's happiness.
I couldn't think of doing it for anybody else. During the whole morning, I was thankful for being made welcomed by the rest of his army brothers, all of them unassuming and friendly whom I'd only met them once or twice. Shuttling east and west between his home and the bride's was tired but it was even more so for the drivers. None of them uttered a word of complain. Surprisingly, it was the professional photographer who uttered some words of fatigue in the hot afternoon.
The picking up at the bride's place was considered mild according to the old birds who had been through much worse. The Superman quiz, the wasabi and the ginger tea treat and the love song thingy was relatively easy as we managed to cut through the defence within 15 minutes. I will leave the rest of the tiny gritty details to your imagination.
8.30pm. Dinner was not a 5 star experience but the food was of good quality compared to the miserable portion at the 5 Star (or was it 6?) "Co**** Hotel" during SPC's wedding. 7
of us from 4E1 + Clare were seated next to the VIP Table and close to the stage. It made us feel important to be invited to grace this happy occasion. Fans of "Century Egg" Form Teacher would be sorely disappointed as she's not invited (for once) to 4E1's wedding, along with her usual entourage from the 1995 days. Thank god!
The video of the couple's love story was moving, captivating and simple without the frills. It brought a suprise smile into our faces as our Langkawi trip pictures were featured.
No lavish 5 star presentations, no posers and no frills. This was the best wedding I ever attended!
