Cheese!Chris, Isa, and Ian waiting at SFO to go through security. They look awfully happy.
We're here in the Philippines now. It's not quite as humid as it would be in June, but it's still pretty damn hot.
The plane trip was quite eventful. Dad and I flew in a separate plane from Mom, Chris, Lola, Tita Grace, Tito Otto, the kids and Mommy. We all had business class tickets, but Dad tried to get us upgraded to first class because of his back problems. Back problems, suuuuure.
After eating a pseudo-gourmet dinner (it was horrible!), I fell asleep. I woke up with this intense headache, the kind that makes me want to pray to the porcelain god until i sacrifice the contents of my GI tract to him. I tried to brave it, to suck it up for the last few hours of the plane ride, but unfortunately God wasn't so willing. I threw up twice. I collected all the doggie bags from the business class passengers- just in case. Upon arrival in Manila, I was still feeling so sick that I couldn't join Dad and Ninong Tino to get Dad's barong measurements. I just slept in the AC-blasted room at Ninong Tino's house.
...
We are now in Alua where
Mabuhay lounge at SFOChris and Tito Otto- who else would be taking advantage of the free unlimited wine, right?
the family is drinking gin mixed in with a little cobra bile, not to mention in a bottle where cobra organs have been soaking in. It's supposed to have some medicinal benefits. Kuyang and the rest of his "patients" swear by it. We're headed to Cabanatuan later on this afternoon to sleep in the haunted house. I mean, Nanay's house.
Cobra GinThey drink this in Alua on a regular basis. The cobras are found and then sold to Kuyang who then drinks the blood, makes the skin into chicharron, and soaks the organs in gin. No thank you.
ButikiThey are all over the walls. These used to freak me out when I was little.

Thanks for setting up this travel journal of yours. It serves as a balm at times when I feel tired, down or just plain lonely. It makes me laugh. Love you so much. - Mom
Chiqui, congratulations for a website well-started! I'm sure I will learn much from all the articles you are writing especially on history (my weakest area). Enjoy Europe and show us the photos later. Take care-love, tita melinda
