Went to Coron via Seair. A small plane - a 19 seater one, transported us to the island of Palawan. I really loved our islands especially Palawan! Saw small and large islands since the plane flew low, sort of just glided thru the clouds. The air strip in Busuanga airport was small and empty. Then, we hit the dirt road via jeepney going to Coron, a 1 hour ride. We stayed at Darayonan, a nice lodge. Well, I had work to do in Coron (we are setting up GWAPS, an electronic Kiosk) and was not able to go around. I had to go back here...really, really....for a vacation. We had a stop over at El Nido airport - view was breathtaking!... read more

PALAWAN TRIP WITH A Sept29 - Oct2, 2006 And then there were two. From a party of five, only A and I finally made it to Palawan. Meant to be, it seems, because the day before we left, typhoon Milenyo wreaked havoc in Manila - all flights were cancelled so our friends who were supposed to fly from Cebu wouldn't have been able to join us anyway. It’s a good thing the weather cleared and we were able to fly out to Palawan last Friday, September 29. Day 1: Honda Bay After checking-in at Asturias Hotel and unpacking our stuff, we went out and flagged down a tricycle from the stand in front of the hotel. I asked him if he could drop-off and pick us up at Honda Bay. As it was normal practice for ... read more

My goodness I needed a holiday. The working lark is tough going on the body and soul, I seriously needed some R and R. After toying with the idea of China and Japan I decided to return to SE Asia again, but this time to the Philippines. Rather than take the bus like a normal person to the airport in Seoul (Incheon) I decided to take the metro as close as I could get then take a taxi. What a nightmare that turned out to be, I needed to flag down a taxi on the freeway, which then charged me almost $50 to the airport. In order to get back into Korea I needed a re-entry stamp from airport immigration, a process that I had read could take hours. I’m delighted to report that I was ... read more

Hello everybody. Sorry CJ and Christofer, im going to write this travelblog in Dutch. Daarna zijn ... read more

Sunday July 10th My plan was to catch the 7AM bus to Puerto Princesca. I hadn't thought of putting my alarm because I figured the roosters would wake me up way before that anyway. I guess I'm getting used to it because I woke up at the very late time of 6:45AM, so I had only 15 minutes to pack everything and run to the bus station on the other side of town. As usual when I'm last minute I'm scared to miss the bus but I should know by now that this is rarely a problem in the Philippines, even less in Palawan. I got to the bus at 7:02 but it didn't leave before past 7:30 so I hurried for no good reason. Martin was on the bus already, reading some dutch magazine. He's ... read more

Thursday July 7th I woke up, took a swim in the ocean, took a shower and went to the cafe to see if there were enough people for the tour. When I got there I realized we were gonna be 8 on the tour: me, the 2 korean guys, a filipino couple and 2 danish girl and their mom. I had some french crepes filled with jam (this place is awesome for food). I went downstairs to get fins and mask but the fins were all too small so I had to take ones size 9 that I could barely enter in. We went on the boat and we started sailing toward an island called Miniloc Island, heading for the Small Lagoon. I really got along well with everyone on the boat. Richard (the filipino guy) ... read more

Monday July 3rd For the first time since I've been in the Philippines I woke up really late on Monday. As usual I had made some crazy scheme for the following days. I was to take an overnight 11 hour bus at 17:00 to Lepaszi, arriving early Tuesday where I'd hike and take picture of Mt Mayon, the world's most picture-perfect volcano. I would take another overnight bus back to Manila on the evening coming back in the capital by Wednesday morning. Wednesday I'd do a day-trip to Lake Taal about 2 hours south of Manila to take pictures of that cool volcano and then come back for 18:00 when my boat to El Nido would depart. This meant I had the whole day to have my laundry done, relax, update my blog and walk around. ... read more

Of all the beautiful places that I have visited, Palawan is the place that is closest to my heart. The fresh breeze, the fine white sands of its beaches, the abundant marine life, and of course the warmth of the people - these are just but a few reasons why I couldn’t get enough of this wonderful place. This year, Culion, Jericho’s birthplace, is celebrating its Centennial Year. When we’ve learned that Nanay & Tita Malyn will be going home to join with the celebrations, we were ecstatic enough that I’ve immediately purchased our online Super Ferry tickets. We couldn’t afford to miss this momentous commemoration of the town’s founding year. Super Ferry has regular trips to Palawan every week. The ferry leaves at Manila on Friday, 8pm and arrives at Coron, Palawan after 12 hours. ... read more

St. Paul's Subterranean River National Park in Puerto Princesa, Palawan certainly deserves to count among the 7 wonders of the world. My friends and I thought it's about time we visit this famous underground river which has been declared a UNESCO Heritage Site , and check out the many other attractions of this southern part of Palawan (the northern part deserves a separate blog!). We were pleasantly surprised to find many more wonders in Puerto Princesa. And this is how our adventure went. St. Paul's Underground River It took us a couple of hours to reach the place. That's over land. Next step is to board a boat passing limestone cliffs to reach the entrance to the underground river. The boat ride was another 30 minutes. When we got off the boat, we found a path ... read more
