PALAWAN TRIP WITH A Sept29 - Oct2, 2006 And then there were two. From a party of five, only A and I finally made it to Palawan. Meant to be, it seems, because the day before we left, typhoon Milenyo wreaked havoc in Manila - all flights were cancelled so our friends who were supposed to fly from Cebu wouldn't have been able to join us anyway. Something About Tipping
I enjoyed reading your blog and viewing the wonderful pictures you made. Palawan and its people are close to my heart. But I would just like to voice out my opinion about tipping. The people of Palawan are some of the the humblest, most honest, most dignified people I've come across with. They are proud of their work and will not charge extra. Back in the 90's tipping was frowned upon and the locals will give you back your tip. Apart from Palawan, I have experienced this only in Japan and some parts of Germany. It would be our duty to take care these Palawan vitues of honesty, pride in work and delivering what is expected without expecting mor in return. I think tipping, to some extent, corrupts people and creates an imbalance between the customer and the service provider. Its probably alright to round up to the nearest tens (PhP), but in general tipping should be avoided, I think.
