After copious amounts of research, we decided on Busuanga (Coron) as our island destination in the Philippines. We knew we didn’t want anything too overrun with tourists and high rises, so this seemed like the perfect destination. The island of Busuanga has just one airport, few cars (they opt for trikes instead), and a calm that comes only with untouched locations. Most people who find themselves on Busuanga had one goal in mind: dive the several sunken WWII Japanese ships, but this island is so much more than that. We had almost 6 days to explore the island (as well as all the nearby island destinations) and fell in love with everything. So, here is some wisdom I’d like to impart on those visiting Busuanga. Know before you come: - The island of Busuanga conserves power, ... read more

It's been years since I was last here in Coron and let me tell you a lot has changed since! 1st the road from the airport to Coron town is now paved, and the small center is bustling with tourists, and restaurants abound, when back then I struggle to even find a good place to eat lunch! Lots of backpackers, some staying to work for a bit with travel companies, I have the same thinking, and I met MJ, a guy who runs his own travel and excursion tours around the Calamianes region. His take is a tad bit different than others, he tries to take people to areas not popular with the mass tourists, remote islands to snorkel or overnight in, eco friendly etc. I got intrigued in this concept, why not, you just walk ... read more

Le surlendemain arrive ... read more

On the way to Coron

We have been a bit lazy recently. After a relaxing week in El Nido, we headed North towards the Calamian Group of Islands in northern Palawan. The journey there was easy enough to arrange. Boats leave El Nido for Coron everyday but the journey was slow. Nearly nine hours after it departed, The Princess Welia, chugged it’s way into Coron Town on Busuanga Island. Ironically, The Princess Welia is supposedly the ‘quick boat’ but the seas were choppy the day we travelled. Thankfully the boat was stable in the water and handled the swells without anyone being sick over the edge. Our first night was spent in Coron Town which was pretty uneventful. Coron Town wasn’t exactly an inspiring place, it’s no tropical paradise – we couldn’t wait to leave! Thankfully we had decided to spoil ... read more

After a few days of exploring the caves and white sand beaches of El Nido, it was time to head north and seek out our next adventure. We bought a ferry ticket on The Princess Welia for 2,200 pesos (Approx. $48 USD) and took the 7 hour ride to the town of Coron on Busuanga Island. Coron is a quaint costal town with remnants of Spanish-European influence in the layout and architecture. To divers, it's known for the twelve WWII Japanese ship wrecks that sunk around the islands near Busuanga. When we arrived, the Princess Welia pulled right up to the front steps of Seadive Resort, where we easily booked a room for the next few days. (A cool tip: One of the staff moved us to room #209 upstairs where we had an outdoor patio ... read more

“Hello, we want to book the boat over to Coron please.” “Ok, that will be 2,200 pesos each.” “I’m sorry, we said we wanted to book the BOAT across?” “Yes, that will be 2,200 pesos each.” “Are you serious?” “2,200 pesos please.” We were in El Nido in low season – this meant the only boat option was ridiculously expensive because they were nowhere near full capacity. To be fair – the boat was quite nice. It was an extra large Banka and because there were only 6 of us – we could all lay down on the benches! Everyone fell asleep apart from me. I am a big boat lover (not in a weird way) so I went out and sat right at the front for about 2 hours. It is well worth doing this ... read more

After our Bolinao and Laiya Batangas escapades. It’s been a year and I haven’t seen my “Barkada” yet… I’m missing their company so much. I’m missing our laughs and fun together. And I remembered what I promised to them last year, that I will organize a cheap vacation for them to Palawan. So I gathered my old researches and contacts and decided where in Palawan we shall go. I selected CORON. So I checked promos for airfares and hotels and computed for our budget in boat tours, foods and land transport. All in all, I’ve summed up our budget for 10 and it’s 6,500 Philippine pesos per person only. 2 months before I’ve been gathering their payments through ATM transfers. I strictly update them and sent out the Itinerary and messages regarding to what they should ... read more

It was my first time to go to Calauit Game Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary in Coron, Palawan. Going to Calauit Island from Coron will take you about 3 hours by car and an hour by boat. When you enter the island, you will walk a two kilometer dirt road before you get to enter the main tourist spot. Then you will get to ride on a safari jeep to go near the animals. You can feed the long-necked giraffes with leaves from trees and take pictures with them. You will be amazed by the black and white striped zebras in a horde that can be viewed from afar. The first time I saw them was when I was in the zoo where they were in cages. You will be astonished by this experience because you can ... read more

It was my first time to go to Busuanga, Palawan, which most of us Filipinos know as part of Coron. I didn't know what was ahead of me when I went there. And I can say that I was so amazed by the beautiful city of Busuanga. My family stayed at Busuanga Island Paradise, which gave us quality service and a nice ambiance. This resort is far from the town center. It is just 15 minutes away and you need to ride a van or jeep in order to get to the city. The resort is not also by the beach front. I had a lot of fun in our stay in Busuanga. I had so much fun when my family and I went island hopping. An island tour would cost about 2,500 Pesos per person ... read more
