Masskara Festival in the City of Smiles
It was the 31st Masskara Festival in Bacolod City held every October 1-20, designed to show the hardships of the people of Negros. With this festival local and foreign visitors get a chance to enjoy 20 days of merry making, beer drinking, dining and street dancing
and we've come to join the Party!!!
I've been in Bacolod before and am a witness of the Negrense's hospitality and great smiles and this trip is just like before well...multiplied by 3. Tagged by 3 men (Jun-Negrense, Paul-Illongo & Rhan-ManileƱo) we toured the city and joined the festivities.
Roads were blocked for the Street dancing and a re-routing of PUV's were implemented so there is only one thing to enjoy this day
to walk, block per block in the down town area until 4pm. First stop
Pope John Paul Shrine just beside SM Bacolod. A 7 storey building built to commemorate the February 20, 1981 visit of Pope John Paul II to Bacolod that represented a blessing for the New Bacolod City. Then off to
SM Bacolod to cool down, the place is so packed for the Masskara
sale. Then were off to the streets along the Cathedral for our Masskara shopping, we got a bargain of 3 masks for P100 and Rhan with his overwhelming charisma got the cheapest deal of 5 masks for only P100. Our Masks necklaces were ready so we walked the streets of Bacolod and took every picture of the event. In the Plaza while the huge crowd waited for the arrival of the performers for the Masskara Street Dance Competition which is the main event for that day we decided to go to Araneta street and watched the street dance up close and personal.
The
Masskara 2010 Street Dance Competition was participated by local people called Negrense. Which is divided into 2 Division the School and Barangay. We were able to watched the School Division competition composed of Elementary and High School students from different schools in Bacolod. From their costumes to choreography they were amazing. Dancing to the tune of
Kari sa Bacolod the street dancers performed at their best. The audience cannot helped themselves, we cannot take it anymore so we shout and dance along
Ohhhhh Ohh Ohhh Masskara
