Hello again! We are still on the island of Samal. The small paradise island where the more fortunate people of Philippines and Davao go to enjoy a day in the weekends. We have notice the fact as the resort got invaded by locals to celebrate a day with their families enjoying sun, bath and some food. The few of us staying at the resort was aware of the crowd already by breakfast. Like Germans they had already occupied the sun-chairs on the beach and by noon we stood there as two misguided tourists asking ourselves where to go. To the reception! Off we went. We kindly asked if we as hotel-guests were to wake up 6 am to secure on of the sun-chairs? The five nice clerks immediately called for assistance. Two members of the beach-staff ... read more

Paradise Island Hi again; after a day with no internet-connection we are again on line to the rest of the world. We left Panabo and the small village were the Project-house is and headed for Davao City to take a boat over to Samal Island, also called Paradise Island. I was only a trip of 15 minutes so we thought we should be there within an hour or two. We did not calculate the time it would take to struggle through the heavy trafficked road going south of Mindanao. All though it was Wednesday and the clock was showing 10 am it felt like Friday in New York the day before Christmas. Somehow the traffic was formed in more lines than the circle a round Coliseum. We finally entered the city and were stopped by a ... read more

How do you picture paradise? We had a taste of it this year when we went to one of Davao's most beautiful resorts - the Pearl Farm. I had first learned about this place several years ago. In fact, I think I was in grade school back then. I remember seeing a beautiful picture of Ms. Margie Moran Floreindo, clad in a colorful muslim woman's dress (I hope I got that one right) on what seemed to be a raft afloat on the beach with a house on it . The water was blue and the background, I can vaguely recall, seemed to look like a forest. That time I had promised myself that I would visit that particular place in the future. Since then, I'd look at the pictures of their advertisements and write-ups ... read more

Tuesday morning Nino and I left early for a day trip to the Pearl Farm Resort on Samal Island. The boat left at 8am and took about 45 minutes, the resort is at the end of the island so it's a reasonably long trip considerng how close Samal Island is to Davao City (DC). Upon arriving we received a welcome drink of iced tea, we then claimed a outdoor Nippa hut to put our things and went for a swim, it was high tide and the water was very clean and refreshing. After swimming we played 8 ball in the games room (2 - 1 my way) and then toured the resort in one of the resort taxis. We decided to have an early lunch, the buffet was excellent, my favourte was the Lapu Lapu fllets ... read more
