Last April 9, 2016, Saturday, nothing much to do after graveyard shift breakfast. I decided to make a quick whole day trip to the southern town of Cebu, Santander. Santander is the closest town if you want to cross from Dumaguete to Cebu. It's just an hour ride by pumpboat at 45 pesos from the town of Sibulan, a municipality that is part of Metro Dumaguete. Santander is a fourth class municipality compose of ten barangays. This town has loads to offer for budget tourists who wants to enjoy a 5-star non-commercialized and less touristy environment. 1. Arrived around 9am at Brgy. Liloan port. The port is smaller that accommodates pumpboat and other small vessels. The water is of blue-green clear, kids are swimming and few locals on their fishing activity. 2. Walked from Liloan port ... read more

This beautiful province at the southernmost part of Cebu has really captivated my heart. When I visited Santander during my first ever trip to Dumaguete City, I thought I was in other country. I fell in love with their beaches. It was my first time to see a real white sand beaches. The blue green beach water is a glittering crystal that resembles those we see in the beaches of El Nido and Coron in Palawan. My stay in Santander is always short-lived because the only time for me to experience its beauty is when we’re having stop-over at the Santander port. Right in front of the port, several miles away is the province of Negros Oriental. To go there we have to take a small fastcraft that leave and arrive at the port every other ... read more

Walk ten minutes from my coastal home in MAANDA, LEYTE, LEYTE, PHILIPPINES, and you will discover this pristine CULASI BEACH located just alongside a rock-strewn mountain. Not many come to this place often for it is a secluded place and still unknown to most people. But my family and a couple of friends in my home place have noticed its splendor lately. Its scenic environment captures my attention making me wonder and come closer to it. Its fresh-looking white sand contrasts the blue-colored deep ocean welcoming the viewers as they begin to hop in. Each time I come home from a head bogging experience of a stressful school life to spend my vacation, I find comfort and solace in the serene surrounding of this immaculate coastline. Away from the noise and bustle of the city, I ... read more

When I was a kid, I am fond of watching National Geographic Channel (NGC) especially covers about the mysteries of the deep blue waters of this planet. It was through that show that I encountered the term "Marine Bioligist". I told myself that one day, those marine bioligists featured in NGC will be my colleagues someday. Well, let's just say that the probability of that day to happen is remote because I happened to be a graduate of accounting course and I am employed in the 4th largest universal bank in the Philippines. Anyway, let's cut the chase and proceed to my experience swimming with the gentle giants of the queen city of the south or "Butanding" as the locals call it. It is located at Tan-awan, Oslob, Cebu City, Philippines and takes about five hours ... read more

For our wedding anniversary we wanted something idyllic and relaxing, we wanted a small island with a nice beach. Not just any beach though, we'd set our minds on the Philippines. In the end we settled on the picturesque island of Malapascua and our timing was not half bad. To get to the island of Malapascua we had to travel to one of the most northern towns of Cebu; Maya, and catch a boat to our destination of Malapascua. Usually there are big yellow coaches with air con taking people to Maya but I think we may have just missed one, hence being piled into a small minivan. During our 4 hour ride to Maya we got talking to a group of Filipinos who were heading to a town an hour outside of Maya for a ... read more

The return night bus from Banaue to Manila arrived earlier than expected at 3am. Tired, we caught a quick cab to get us back to Pink Manila Hostel. Arriving to people still partying at 4am was a little shock, but we quickly avoided the invitations to join and jumped into our dorm beds and fell straight asleep. A 16 bed dorm room that is, the largest we have ever slept in and we both slept like babies. The following day we decided to do nothing but relax as most things were closed (we found out that even McDonald’s was closed when we strolled the empty streets). We therefore spent most of our time in our hostel. P jumped in the pool a couple of times, Chris went to the local gym on the ground floor and ... read more

I left swedish ground over 13 month ago to travel across the world and see the turtles in Bali, skydiving over mountains in new Zealand and see the beaches in Australia. It was a 4 months trip with 2 Swedish friends. We thought we were super easy going with low standards in Bali. We didn't care where we slept as long as it were clean, have AC and a nice bed and we almost always went to the cheapest restaurants, we stayed away from local street food, we didn't want to be sick. One of the girls dropped of after a month in Bali but we continued cruising New Zealand and the East coast of Australia, even couchsurfed a bit if we found a nice host. When the 4 months came to an end I just ... read more

Not a big city girl After the first day in Cebu city I started to feel a bit homesick for the first time in 13 months. I spent another night with my host before she was heading to the coast for the weekend and I was invited. The only thing I have planned is my date of departure so I just go along with whatever comes up. The next day I spent in the city with an American guy that also was couchsurfing at the same place, we walked around went on some jeepneys before we got bored and went back to the apartment. I started to regret that I booked 1 whole month and was just wait for our host to come back so we could go. The bus ride Jumped on the bus to ... read more

First night in the Philippines and at my CouchSurf host Klaudia, came to her cute little apartment in Cebu city had a beer and a chat with her before it was time for bed. Woke up the next day alone in the apartment and had my own key, no trust issues here. I had no real idea where I was but lonley planet said that uptown should be a cool place so after asking around and getting asked at least a dozen times why I'm traveling alone and "where's your boyfriend?" Well we have a long distance relationship since he lives in the future. I didn't want to be a typical tourist and take a cab to the city, not that I seen any other tourist than me but still. So I jumped in a jeepney ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Cebu » Mactan Island February 22nd 2015

We had decided to do a tour of Mactan Island because our hotel offered it, and it would drop us at the airport, ready for our flight home. The staff at our hotel weren't the greatest, the first person we had inquired about the tour with told us he would speak to the manager and never got back to us. He obviously forgot about us, as when we went to reception to ask again, we asked a different member of staff, and when he saw us, he realised why we were there. The other member of staff said that they would ask the manager and then ring us. It's a good job, we weren't going anywhere that evening, as it took a few hours for them to ring us to confirm. It should have been a ... read more
