Everything was so unexpected. We have no plans yet of celebrating our honeymoon and my birthday until this travel opportunity came to us astonishingly.
This was supposed to be a business trip for Jeric, but since I am about to celebrate my natal day, his bosses decided, without any hesitations, to also buy me a plane ticket for Cagayan de Oro. Thank you so much Maam Edith and Boss Tino, we will forever cherish this wondrous moment that you’ve unselfishly granted to us.
Day 1 - September 16, 2006, Saturday We arrived at CDO airport at 730am. We were greeted by Jericho’s officemate, he then drove us to the city for a breakfast to a small “carinderia-ish “ restaurant which serves the best bulalo in town. Forgot the name though, my bad. Hehehe.
After our quick breakfast, we immediately headed off to our hotel. Located at the back of Robinson’s Cagayan de Oro and just a stone-throw away from Limketkai center, we checked-in at the newly-built Malberry Suites. I think the hotel is the best place to stay in CDO since it is accessible to malls and restos.
Bukidnon Time to work. After lunch, we
were fetched up by Jericho’s officemate to start their ocular inspection around the city as well as in the nearby province of Bukidnon. The trip was sort of inspection-cum-sight seeing for all of us. I couldn’t help myself but be amazed by the wonderful scenes around me. Bukidnon is blessed with mountains, and the place is green all over. Ahhh, a breath of fresh air! Along with their inspection of telecom towers, we took a few stops for our photo stops - in the middle of a zigzag road, at a bridge, at a park overlooking a waterfalls, and of course a pineapple plantation. We also didn’t miss to have a taste of the region’s unique fruit, the Durian.
It was indeed a long day. After we have freshen up, we took our dinner at the Malberry’s Restaurant. Wow, what a sumptuous dinner. Their steaks are really the best. Yum yum!
Day 2 - September 17, 2006, Sunday It’s my birthday! I could count on my left hand the times that I’ve been away with my family during my birthday. Well anyways, Jericho is my family now, and besides I still have a long day ahead
to explore the city.
We started the day with a lavish buffet breakfast at the hotel which is part of our accommodation. We then strolled along LimKetKai center, exploring the different restos/bars around the place.
We just lazed around and talked with locals, asking them of the places that we could visit on the city. I was wishing to take the white water rafting experience, but locals said that the place is 2 hours away from the city. We don’t have much time so I decided, with a heavy heart, that we will just drop the white water rafting. Maybe, next time, if I’ll still have the grand opportunity to visit the place. Then, we hailed a cab and headed of to Xavier University ( Ateneo de Naga ) and attended the 11am mass.
After another luxuriant lunch at Malberry’s resto, oh I really couldn’t get enough of their delicious steaks, we checked out at the hotel and were on our way to Camiguin.
We just rented a cab, and made a deal with him for Php 1,000 pesos to take us to Balingoan Port, the jump-off point to the island of Camiguin. We just
asked the driver to have a stopover at Malasag Eco-park still at the city of CDO. We toured around the park where we saw several tribal homes. We also trailed along the forest and crossed at the hanging bridge.
Camiguin At 4pm, we were already at Balingoan Port, just in the time for the last ferry trip to Camiguin. After an hour, we’ve already arrived at Benoni Port in Camiguin where we were greeted by a lot of locals offering a cab ride to take us to the resorts on the island. We have no previous reservations on any of the resorts, but a friend of mine recommended Paras Beach resort. At past 6pm, we are already at the resort and just settled for a while.
At 7pm, we had our dinner at the resort. Since we still have some leftovers from our lunch at Malberry, we just ordered some rice and viola, another yummy dinner. We then just lazed around, drank some beer, and sang at the videoke bar while star gazing. We then decided to take a dip to the resort’s pool.
Day 3 - September 18, 2006, Monday White Island, Camiguin At 7am, after breakfast, we rented a boat which will take us to the infamous sandbar of Camiguin, the White Island. The island is visible from our resort though. The island has fine white sand, just like the sands in Palawan. We swam for about 2 hours at the beach, then headed back to the resort. Back at the resort, we played around the pool area where we had our amazing photo ops.
We don’t have much time since we have to go back to Cagayan de Oro to catch our 5pm flight back to Manila. Immediately after we have packed up, we ask the cab which also took us to the resort to get us to the places where we could buy pasalubong. We stopped over a house where we bought some cashew, then to Vjandep which sells the Island’s most famous product, the Pastel.
We were lucky enough to catch the 1pm trip at Benoni port. I also had the chance to buy the sweetest Lanzones that the island boasts off.
We headed straight to CDO airport and bid the beautiful province goodbye.
