Ok, so it has taken me some time to get round to writing about Boracay but I think I have only just recovered from the experience! You can't sell me a bottle of rum for 70p and expect me to walk away in a straight line! So that was pretty much all there a to do on the island apart from soak up the scenery. Boracay's White Beach was voted World's number one Tropical Beach back in 1996 (when the island clearly had much fewer visitors)! But now every Summer it sees an influx of tourists - mainly Swedish from what I saw! Most of the people I met there were Swedish! They were either travelling or just taking a holiday there! Suppose that all contributes to their dodgy year-round tan! Anyways, the name Boracay literally ... read more

Totally speaking Boracay is one of the wonders of the world for vacation. The climate, the sea, the beach, accomodation, entertainment, dining and wining, reasonable prices make this wonderland. The Alice in Wonderland Resort, about 200 meters away from the beach, fully satisfied us ( 1960 PHP/night with free full access internet in the room). Usually we had our breakfast at the balcony of our bungalow. For lunches we often went to wet market ( D’talipapa) where they sell fresh seafood. There are restaurants surrounding the wet market that cook the seafood we bought; 1500-2500 PHP/kilo lobster, 400 PHP/kilo fish, 400-1000 PHP/kilo prawns according to their sizes, 1200 PHP/kilo crab. We spent sun set time usually on the beach at Nigi Nigi and we dined there. Before breakfast we made our beachwalk about one hour ... read more

Better late than never... Hopyeong - Roxas After four months straight in South Korea Fran & I were very ready to embark on our holidays to the Philippines on December 23rd. We left immediately from school and grabbed our packed bags then hopped in a taxi to Pyeongnae where we waited for the airport bus. We were lucky it wasn't incredibly cold as we knew we were headed for warmer weather and didn't want to take up all the space in our bags with jackets and jumpers. I'm always anxious when going somewhere; Did I bring everything? Are we going to get there on time? Fran remains cool-headed & sometimes I wonder if he's laughing internally, as he reminds me that even if we've forgotten something, we have the essentials & we've made more than ... read more

Well, I knew this would be the hardest blog yet to write. After all, how can you detail the mind altering activities undertaken while living in paradise for 4 days? How can you emerge from the numbness and make it seem more real, uninflated? There were the trials of having to work my abs while rolling over in the beach chair or the day we were told that there might be a cloud in the sky along with an apology for the weather and a big smile, with Philippine island accent, saying “I hope not mum. We’ll hope for no cloud.” Yes, Jessie had the stress of having to leave the beach to walk back (through paradise) to our room for her forgotten iPod. And Matt endured the pain of sunburn because I was too lazy ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! I was hoping to bump into some TravelBloggers in Boracay as there were quite a number of tourists in this lovely island at the same time my family and I stayed to meet the new year. The weather forecast was not very encouraging. A WET new year's weekend, it threatened! But the sun was out and furiously beating down on us when we all arrived in the morning of December 30th for our 5-day holiday here. Must be quite a pleasant change for those guys who flew in from the harsh winter in Europe and North America. Arriving in Kalibo, Aklan and Taking the Boat to the Island Many choose to fly straight into Caticlan airport to take the 15 minute boat trip to the island. We have been here ... read more

Sun 27th: Came to Boracay, via Kalibo airport, a couple of hours later than we expected. We have a way of being booked on flights that are last minute delayed. Checked in at Dave's Straw Hat Inn, a highly recommended place to stay if you're thinking about going to Boracay. The cottages are great, modern and clean with warm water showers, cable TV, fan, air con and the staff are courteous and very personal and friendly. Went out to dinner along the beach, accompanied by some lady boys doing fire poi and singing rather dreadfully, haha. Mon 28th: Headed down to the dive shop "Water colors" first thing in the morning. Both Johan and I planned to do the Open Water Diving course, so we had to fill out some health insurance forms and since both ... read more

Well its been a long time since my last blog. Apologies. Myself and my new companion left Manila, and headed to Boracay for a week. The Island of Boracay is small but somewhat understated as it turns out to be an epicentre of tourist activity. However, despite the offers of Kite Surfing, Scuba Diving, Snorkling, boat trips, island hopping, Jet skis and ATVs we found little else but the Beach - which is incredible, gold/white sand and clear water - and drinking at night. But in fairness we wanted little else and due to the extreme tourist nature of the island the prices of the activites are expensive. The Padi Open Water course is 'regulated' across the island to be atleast 20,000php = 300GBP. And we had also heard mixed reports to the quality of the ... read more

After leaving Manila, we booked a flight on Cebu Pacific, and headed off to Boracay Island, in the center of the Philippines. What we got was a stark contrast from the city, as this was a tropical island with crystal clear water and probably the nicest beaches I've ever seen to date. The only crappy thing was it was a little touristy but definitely a change of pace from Manila. We stayed at Frenz hostel which was the budget backpacker hub of the White Beach, which was the main area of this small island. It was sick how many different restaurants, bars, nightclubs, shops, etc and again very touristy so we kind of had to pick and choose where we ate and be economical. Still sometimes it was difficult, and I did end up splurging at ... read more

With only three days of planning we headed off to the Philippines, quite unprepared for what lay ahead. To date travelling around South East Asia has been so easy so we figured the Philippines would be no different but unfortunately we couldn't have been more wrong. Our adventure began when we left Kuala Lumpur to catch an overnight bus to Singapore. Little did we know that this was the beginning of a thirty-six hour journey involving trains, planes and side cars of motorbikes! Singapore was so easy to get around, even at four a.m. and after two short train rides, a bus and a flight, we arrived in the Philippines. We had read forums and government warnings about the real risk to tourists of kidnapping here and had been advised that the best ways of minimising ... read more
