As we approach the end of our travels, before we head back to Bangkok for two more short nights and our plane right home, before getting back to rainy London, we wanted to salvage these last few days of this incredible country and headed to what is known as the tourist Mecca of the Philippines,
Boracay.
Now we did have
some reservations:
- We had heard from fellow travelers that Boracay is always busy even now during off season - not a good sign.
- The Lonely Planet rates Boracay as the top Filipino hotspot - definitely not a good sign,
- We had been to so many incredible places in the Philippines that we were sure nothing could top them.
AND THEN WE ARRIVED IN BORACAY If I was asked right now to close my eyes and dream up a beach, the most amazing, fantastic, perfect beach in the world, I think it would be exactly like the one we find ourselves on in Boracay. The sand - like powder - feels as though we are walking on clouds. The water is like swimming in a pool, and if that's not enough - lots of super-tasty restaurants, beautiful resorts and
hotels and long, long beach. It's low season even here, so the place is virtually empty - no problem in securing a room, getting a discount and staying on the beach with no-one around you in a 50-100m radius.
Boracay isn't a cheap destination and a night in the top places could easily get to $250-300 a night. So we were super-lucky to find Two Seasons, a resort which hasn't yet opened it (official opening in November) and so for a sum which we shall not disclosed (discounted since the place is still being built and only partially open for guests), got one of their gorgeous suites where we spent 4 amazing nights and days. They also have a pet Shark in an aquarium in the reception - and Jean-Jean, as he's called, is another good reason to stay here - he's just so cool.
Food is terrific here. We had here our best Hummus in this trip, in a Greek place called
Cyma, which also makes terrific eggplants and tziki, which would challange even the best restaurants in Greece.
Most of the time we rested on the beach, swam, built sand castles and watched movies.
Boracay is simply
the best beach destination we've been to (better than the Seychelles, for instance). If you're lucky you can get here in the low-season (e.g., September) and assuming there's no rain (like now), you'd have the time of your life.
Tomorrow: Bye Bye Philippines We are so sad to be leaving the Philippines tomorrow. It's been one of our favorite countries ever and we are sure to come back here, hopefully soon.
If you ever consider a vacation in the area, you'd be mad to skip this amazing place. Whilst our experience is based on the low-season time here, we just can't imagine it would be any different in high-season. The Philippines have so much to offer and simply exceeded all our expectations. Be it Manila, Cebu, Bohol or Boracay - we had fantastic time everywhere we went and we're hoping you would, too.
So we're off to Bangkok for Rosh Hashana, our last couple of days of our best trip ever and to catch our flight home. We can't wait to be back here.

Say "We'll be back"...
Thanks for a wonderful and great blog. Boracay? What a way, indeed, to cap your trip to the Philippines.
The Philippines will miss you, too.
Shalom
It's great you discovered my country and thanks for the very nice words. As a Filipino, it is refreshing to hear your kind of comments especially from someone who originally was not expecting much. I hope more foreigners loving to travel read your blog and realize that the Philippines should be regarded as one of the prime destinations. And of course, we all hope you return and try out the other parts of the country; Palawan, perhaps?
Thanks for visiting the Philippines.... :)
