Impressive List. Which one's did Oprah suggest you read? And how were they?
I guess you didn't read Bill Bryson's "Life in a Sunburned Country" or "Down Under," so how about a "Walk in the Woods" or "A Short History of Just About Everything?" You'll definitely be in a different woods, but you will be in the middle of the creation of the earth.
We're looking forward to your comments & photos of Nepal.
Hi John! I liked The Kite Runner. Another book that has become a NY Best Seller is "Freakenomics" By Steven Levitt & Stephen Dubner. Good luck with the book search! Taylor
Howdy Lynch. I just got into Japan today, we'll be flying out this afternoon to Hong Kong to catch the boat. Let me know where you'll be in the next month to see if we can't cross paths.
Siddhartha's a great read, you'll appreciate it since you're traveling. And one that I just finished on the plane was called the Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, very thought provoking stuff.
Try "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. Long, but its pretty good
Read I hope they serve beer in hell asap, the stories rival some from our psu days.
lynch mob!!!! hell of a list man... even intimidating, one might say. check out Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. it won the pulitzer and certainly deserved it... about an american dr. working in hati. keep the blogs coming. i love reading them!
John,
I read constantly and am going to recommend the books I read this past year that I enjoyed or intrigued me the most:
1.) The Namesake: Jhumpa Lahiri
2.) The World is Flat: Thomas Friedman
3.) Kite Runner (which is on the docket and I'm sure you've heard amazing things about, which are all true, this book is so good)
4.) Blindess: Jose Saramago (this book is pretty crazy and kind of spooky, but really makes you think)
5. Montana 1948: Larry Watson (Pretty heavy, but a solid read)
Power of oNe by Bryce Courtney, Wild Swans by Jung Chang and Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandella have to be some of the best books i have read! Hope you enjoy!!
