It's another day at the office of the federal democratic republic of Nepal! Our expedition arrived in Nepal on Sunday last week because we got sick in Varanasi and therefore we had to postpone our train/bus 3 times! The nasty diarrhea bacteria wasn't an easy opponent and actually today when I'm writing this blog is the first day when I'm feeling well for the first time in week. My advice for all the travellers: don't hesitate to visit hospital in order to get the right antibiotics at once. A Varanasian pharmasist doesn't know a thing!
So we have been a couple of days in Kathmandu and the most remarkable things compared with India are friendliness of people and surprisingly the minor amount of pollution. The sky is clear and I don't have feeling to cover myself in a Korean or Japanese way. People don't bullshit tourists like in India: they are genuine and are listening to what we really want. If some restaurant isn't good in their opinion they will say it also. I like this honest way!
Likewise by all the other travellers, the monkey temple of Swayambhunath and the ancient Durbar square are now seen and checked

Our bus from border to Kathmandu... by us as well. The first one was very nice because of the view above the city. There are also the famous prayer wheels to be spun, so you'll wash your sins away at the same time. The famous stupa of the eyes of Buddha (one kind of icon of Kathmandu) is the middle of the temple. Worth visiting place definitely. The Durbar square was also nice since we took a guide who told about the history of square and about the uncountable number of different hindu deities and their places around the area. Hinduism isn't the simplest of concepts, but it was interesting to hear how devoted people are here when it comes to religion.
Thamel area, the backpacker ghetto, is a must see also. Our hostel is near the centre of this district so we have been there a lot. Luckily we have managed to keep our daily budget in balance even though there are a lot of lures to waste one's money. Yesterday we decided to indulge ourselves when we found a very good Finnish-like Sauna here! It wasn't such a bargain but when you are bored with cold showers we didn't have any second thoughts.

...wait! It broke down somewhere in the country and we had to change it to a smaller one. So now after getting better and having some hot steams we are ready for the Annapurna expedition which will start tomorrow and will last 6 days. Hopefully we'll see mountains as much as possible, maybe conquer one and come back safe and sound (at least our Sherpa looked like very much a man in form).
Namaste for the next time!
Ps. Now it's confirmed: Lauri means in Nepalese 'a Nepalese who goes abroad to work'. This has made a lot of laughts when we have introduced ourselves. 😊
