Well the time had come for me to go for a dream of mine that I had wanted to do for such a long time, I was heading to Mt Everest Base Camp.
I was going to be going solo but at the Kathmandu airport I bumped into another lad from the US and he was planning to do the same sort of thing so we teamed up and headed on our way. The flight in Lukla where the hike starts was interesting and a look on youtube and type in Lukla alot of things will come up with the airstrip and the bad things that have happened there and only 2 months before we arrived there as well.
Anyway we headed of on our hike and first day we made it Monjo and this was the first of bad experiances I got to have anlong the way. Something I ate did not go down to well and for the next three days I was not good. There is a hospital along the way which I needed to get to but getting there was very difficult. Two day walk, well much of it I was actually crawling as no energy and
also I had another 11 odd days to do the complete hike.
Well I did get better but not before loosing many kg in two days but headed on. I can remember seeing Mt Everest for the first time and I just did not care at all what I was looking at. The guy fomr the US was taking photos and I think i didn't even try to take one.
Anyway the scenery along the way was fantastic and we had the bonus of not seeing other people for several days at a time since it was winter there which meant very cold but we got very lucky with the weather and it was clear everyday but at night my god! It was cold! Going to the toilet outside was not an option (it would be frozen by the time hit the ground) so in a bottle it was.
It was several months ago I did the hike now but I have fantastic but scary memories of the hike. Two people in front of us dies along the way as the got lost on a glacier and we think fell though the ice as it is so easy to do
as we got lost ourself a coule of times just before we got to Base Camp.
At Base Camp we were actually the only ones there which was so surprising for us! I thought when thinking of Mt Everest Base Camp it would be tent city but not one other person there which was amazing and a good thing to experiance.
The best views of Mt Everest were from a mountain close by (the peak is not visiable from Base Camp) called Kala Patthar at 5550 Mt high and it was the third time by the stage we have gone over 5000 Mt high and it was taking it's tole. It was blowing a gale up there and took some time but the views were amaxing!
Over all I am soooo glad I have done this for the two weeks with no shower and stinking really bad. It was easy the hardest thing I have ever done in my life! It was magnificant though and this time of year was magnificant but we got lucky with the weather, it could have been disaster otherwise.
I only put a handful of photos on here as I have hundreds but they do
not do justice to the place!
