Naadam is Mongolian traditional summer festival. The full name of the festival is Eriin gurvan naadam. It’s translated as Three Men’s Games. This festival continues 3 days from 11^th to 13^th July.



This festival recently have celebrated and it gave me some interesting things. So maybe I reached to write by this topic. In my opinion we are celebrating Naadam widely and exhausting, it makes an idea of raising our tradition and culture and one of important reasons that introduce our history, culture, celebration etc. Mongolians like naadam because the weather is very nice as well only in summer is warm and hot, here you will want to travel around Mongolia because of very beautiful nature you will see. Anyway Mongolia have 4 seasons, most of them is often cold.







A bit of history



In history says Naadam festival began from Genghis khan period (in 1206), the king liked to watch his warriors power, speed and brave. In other word, this naadam was so influenced in wars. But in otherwise this naadam helped to collect and meet nomadic people. Ancient Mongolians have been living like nomadic until recent. they couldn't meet each other because of in the vast places always move to another place.



This year we are celebrating 2220^th anniversary of Hunnu empire (Xiongnu period), 805^th anniversary of Great Mongolia, 100^th anniversary of Mongolian independent and 90^th anniversary of Mongolian revolution. This is talking Mongolian history firstly established Mongolian first empire in BC 209 after that Mongolians had separated and broken then get back again. After Hunnu period in 1206 Genghis khan could integrate Mongolians and established Great Mongolia. In 1911 Mongolia reacted from under dictatorship of Manchu Chin period and found our independent of Mongolia. Further in 1921 won people’s revolution in Mongolia. So from this we may look why announcing these many celebrations, of course its making people to pride of our history, culture and traditions. (I muttered so much about history… sorry ;))







This summer’s festival ceremony



This summer’s naadam festival went more seriously, special and widely, we could see from wonderful festival ceremony which organized in Central Park. There were so many people participate in this ceremony to dance, sing, play morin khuur. And had little acting about Mongolian history. 100 national dancers danced “milky spiritual mother”.



Outside of Central park people like to see souvenir, to buy national clothes and to eat national food. This time people usually like to eat huushuur(one of national food, fried flour into meat). Now its already one of our traditions. Actually I went with my brother and mum to Central park to eat huushuur. People think Naadam’s huushuur more tasty than other.



Further Mongolians like to wear their national dress, we say as ‘deel’. Organized festival of “Mongolians with deel” on Sukhbaatar squire. People wear their special deel and show people and take a photo. Tourists like to watch this festival too. And arranged the show of mongol deel’s fashion. I wanna to say every year our festivel improving by some way and to be more interesting. I heard in this year’s naadam there are 500 thousand foreign tourist came in Mongolia only to see this festival. Actually this number is rised number.
