December 14, 2019. Moving on from George Town, we had one last delicious breakfast of French Toast and ice cream before heading to the airport for our short and cheap Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpur. The airport is about 55km from the city center and it was significantly cheaper to get a GRAB taxi rather than take the train. Plus we got delivered right to door of the Verdant Hill Hotel in the Bukit Bintang district. The weather gods had finally deserted us. The further south we travel in Malaysia, the worse the weather forecasts seem to be with thunderstorms and heavy rain predicted for every afternoon. So far we have mostly experienced (only) short lived monsoonal downpours, but today the rain appears ready to stay a while. One of the reasons we chose the ... read more

My one day transit in KL was never better. I love this city so much, the food, the incredible people and the lingo that I can understand a bit. Oh KL...I wish to live together with you someday despite your resident permit complications. My late arrival from Delhi was not an issue because everything at KL airport was arrangeable, including late-night authentic Malaysian street foods to uncomplicated Uber drivers. I am glad that my trip ran smoothly from the start all the way to my hotel. Well.. there was a wee bit of a hiccup finding the hotel. The hotel has two locations in KL, and my driver took the wrong one, for which he apologised endlessly. Nasi lemak and all the fun stuff to do is all I had in my head. I got up ... read more

December 7, 2019 and we are leaving Thailand and moving onto Malaysia. It is a bit of a long travel day with a 2.5 hr ferry ride to the island of Ko Lipe where we will clear Thai immigration and then a second slow ferry to Telaga Harbour on the Malaysian Island of Langkawi. The strong ENE wind that kept temperatures tolerable on Ko Lanta, has resulted in somewhat heavy seas, so the first part of the trip which was in open waters, was not exactly smooth sailing. The ferry was actually a large 60 passenger speedboat, and those people unfortunate enough to be sitting on the port side took the brunt of the waves and got soaked. The boat captains kept up a decent speed of 40 mph! Arriving in Ko Lipe, the water was ... read more

After 3 years finally we were on the way to our absolutely favourite city in Asia: Kuala Lumpur. For those of you who follow us since quite a while, it is nothing new that we really like Malaysia, its people, nature and: Kuala Lumpur. It was already our 4th visit to this town. But let's start from the beginning. From Istanbul we flew Fly Dubai to Dubai - if you can avoid to fly with this airline - avoid it! You will get nothing but water on this 5 hour flight and it is more than cramped and unpleasant. So it was such an amazing surprise when we entered the A380 of Emirates. The flight was completely booked but we were lucky enough to get the ermergency seats. So, lots of leg space and no neighbours, ... read more

Yeah... Dad's here for a visit... I went down to Kuala Lumpur to meet him and as he was feeling good we booked and caught the next flight up to Langkawi. On our way to the flight we literally bumped into Drew and Kat at the airport, who I hadn't seen for years. The last time Dad was here I was staying on Drew's boat in Phuket and the boys were happy to see each other. We're all on the same flight, staying in the Royal Hotel for the night and had a great start! Next day I took Dad up to have a look at Aria, he managed to get onboard ok and he decided he could manage to stay onboard which was great. Unfortunately I have new crew onboard, all German's, but that's life! ... read more

1. My friends and I made an arrangement to meet up in Kota Kinabalu before flying to Tawau (southernmost of Sabah). 2. It was close to mid-night when we arrived at Tawau Airport. We knew it would take another 2hrs of driving from airport to Semporna and we knew the risk of travelling at night especially in this area. Despite all the hesitation, we brave our self to hop on a minibus with local driver which I myself pretty comfortable that he would make our road trip a comfortable and safe ;) 3. Upon reaching Semporna, we quickly checked in at a small lodge located approx 20mins from Jetty. 4. The next day, our driver picked us at noon as our boat trip to Mabul would depart at 2pm. 5. The trip by boat took more ... read more
