Cuti-Cuti Malaysia : Road Trip.
As usual, every year me and my Family will travel within Malaysia. Like usual, it was a road trip and this 5 days holiday will take me around Kelantan and Penang. Malaysia East Coast and Malaysia Up North. It was an exciting holiday for family bonding and local destination experience. And not forgotten, try out the local food and delicacies.
Day 1 - 7th May 2009
Journey started at my hometown, Bentong. Departed at 0805 hours. I was suggesting my mom to leave earlier but my dad forgot to fill the tank. So we needed to wait for the petrol station to start their business. For this trip, we were heading to Kelantan, so we took the East Coast highway. We would pass by Kuantan ( capital of Pahang ), Terengganu then Kelantan. Known as beach road. The other main road to Kelantan is via Gua Musang. Known as land road.
From Karak to Kuantan, the toll amount is RM21. We then use the main road to Kemaman where we were goin to stop for the breakfast. Arrived at Hai Peng Kopitiam in Kemaman around 1100 hours. This is our 2nd visit
to this famous kopitiam in Terengganu. Light breakfast of Nasi Dagang, Mihun Goreng, Kuih and Roti Bakar amounting RM26.30 for 5 pax.
Later we continued with our journey. The destination is Pasir Putih, Kelantan. Where my aunt resides. This trip was to visit her since she just moved there. She is originally from Kelantan and married my uncle, my mother's brother.
Pasir Putih is the town which is in the border of Kelantan and Terengganu. That is why we used the beach road cuz it is more nearer. So the journey would take around 5 hours from Kemaman to Pasir Putih.
The road was absolutely my favorite. You can see the beach along the road on your right. And the fishing villages, the muara ... and you can actually count how many bridges u crossed along the way. I did.. but we lost count.. It was around 10 and more :D Goodness..
We reached Kuala Terengganu around 1400 hours. Were actually still famished but dad was craving to have lunch in the famous restaurant in Kuala Terengganu, Restaurant Mat Binjai. Well I dun find any speacilities here but, well I think its the malay food they offered.
With fresh seafood and variety of lauks. ( dishes ) My Bro also attempted to eat a turtle egg but I didnt and never will. Against my animal planet principles :D The bill was amounted RM67.00
Around 1440 hours we continued the trip. Along the way we could see beaches, fishing villages and the land was just flat. Could hardly see any hills. And weather was quite hot. We arrived in a nice beach side called Pantai Sari Bari, located in Kampung Rhu 10 in Setiu district. Arrived around 1550 hours and snapped some pics to remember.
We finally arrived in Tok Bali at 1730 hours and met my aunt in a local restaurant for some snacks. Then back to her place in Cherang Ruku and out again at nite for a local night market. You can find local delicacies like som tam ( papaya salad), nasi kerabu ( blue colored rice with mixes salad and fish and coconut shreds) , coconut shake ( blended young coconut juice with vanilla ice-cream). Sadly the camera was out of battery so no pics for this!
Day 2 - 8th May 2009
Not much cultural thing I went
Beach Road
view from the car to visit in Kelantan this time. Since we went there many times and times were limited, my aunt just asked us to go to Pengkalan Kubur. Nothing much actually... just a place to shop. Where all the goods coming from the neighbor country, Thailand. Pengkalan Kubur is actually the border, the entrance to Thailand.. :D
Before we headed to Pengkalan Kubur, we dropped by Tok Bali for breakfast. If you are driving from Terengganu, the food place will be after the 2nd junction to Pasir Puteh. The signboard will be Pasir Puteh / Cherang Ruku. The restaurant is about 500 m from the junction and its called Kedai Makan Kak Juniah.
And they served a very good nasi dagang.
Nasi Dagang is a local food originally from Terengganu. But you can find in Kelantan as well. If in Terengganu, the rice would be purple in color, but in Kelantan it is white. It is actually mixture of regular rice and sticky rice. To be eaten with fish curry and cucumber and carrot salad. Usually thats how the dish goes, but you can find chicken dishes and beef dishes as well.
From Tok Bali to Pengkalan Kubur takes
around 1 hour driving. You will passed by Kota Bharu town ( capital of Kelantan ) then some Buddhist temple. Pengkalan Kubur was hot and the goods you can find, clothes.. scarves, fake branded shirt, football jersey and Branded china. The cookware like Pyrex and Corning Ware. I saw one fake Coach bag, very nice for my next trip to Bali and it only cost me RM100. But at last, i didnt buy it anyway..
For lunch, we stopped at Pantai Irama (Irama Beach) at Bachok. and Had some fried seafood and keropok lekor (snack made from fish)
In the evening, we went to the beach at Tok Bali to swim. But it started to rain just when we got our feet in the water. Bad luck!!
