Petronas Towers
Check out "The Twins!" Saturday 13th December Up early to see the sights. We headed to the city centre to check out the Petronas Towers which used to be the tallest buildings in the world untill 2004 when Taipei 101 (floors that is) in Taiwan was built and took the title. We did want to have a wander to the top (88 floors) but you can only pay to go not even half way up to the walk way joining the 2 towers and you have to be there at the crack of dawn to get a ticket. We took some cool photos from outside though and and had a wander through the shopping mall thats under the 2 towers, very posh I might add. I used the toilets on the posh floor 2rm (30p) and you got scented tissue and perfume sprayed on you as you left nice touch! We left the shopping centre after having a little look at the shops of course. We headed to our next sights which was mainly Temples but I all of a sudden felt really ill and we had to race back to the hostel where I was a stuck in the bathroom the rest of the
afternoon. Luckily I felt well enough to venture out later on and We had a wander around the market. Steve bought some sun glasses and it was his first experience at bartering as we attempted it in South America but it didn't happen! The price began at 120rm (around 24 pounds) and we got him down to 20rm (under 4 pound) its amazing how when you walk away they drop the price dramatically. I must admit I am not to comfortable doing the whole bartering thing yet as I dont want to offend them by saying a real low price but im sure with practice ill get used to it. The shops got a little to much for me in the end as the workers in the shop follow you around only because your a tourist as the locals get left in peace but they may as well ask you for a bloody piggy back ride they get so close its intimidating. So we played a few little games walking around in circles wasting their time it was amusing. We ventured to the night market and bought dinner there, I did not eat mine as it was like cold curry
Down in one,
Down in one, Down in one, with bone, no meat so steve had mine. I still wasn't feeling well so that didn't help matters and everywhere I went local women where praying at me I was wearing a short dress but in KL anything goes dress wise it was bizzare.
Sunday 14th December Travel day again today headed to Penang at 11:30am took 5hrs and the bus had air con but it was absolutly FREEZING! By the time we arrived in Penang my lips where blue and i'd forgotten I even had toes. We actualy got dropped off at a central bus station and had to jump on a local bus to Georgetown which we were not expecting but it was no trouble. As we took in the sights we were suprised to be greeted by a huge TESCO express and it looked exactly the same as ours in the UK. Unfortunately it was a little bit too far from the area we were staying in. We had a look at the hostels from Lonely Planet - one was an old museum with antiques everywhere which was pretty cool. We ended up in one I'd liked from reading Lonely Planet as it was a brand
new hostel so everything was really clean and suprisingly really cheap - only 25RM (about 4.70 pounds). Headed out for food after a shower and ended up in a bar looking place with seats outside. I had ginger chicken with boiled rice, Steve had chicken fried-rice and veg. We both had a coke and it only came to 15RM (2.80 pounds). Unfortunately Steve was still hungry so he grabbed a burger from a street vendor and I don't think I've seen so much mayo on a burger in my life! Sat out in the little common area. I tried some local rum and thrashed Steve at a few games of cards.
Monday 15th December We had a long lie cos Steve's been sulking that he never gets a lie in. We decided to have a chilled day on the beach but we left late and it took longer than expected to get there so we arrived at about 3pm. It wasn't quite the clear waters and perfect sands I was expecting but I've been told that Thailand is the place to go for that. It took us even longer to get back but when we eventually arrived back at
Secret Village
Taking a wrong turn it's amazing what you can find! the hostel we went for round two and had the rest of the rum.
Tuesday 16th December Not much at all happened today due to my poorly tummy. At least it's stopping me putting on weight so that's always a good thing. We had a little sightsee and found (by mistake) a wooden village on stilts over the sea! Up early tomorrow - not looking forward to it as it's a long journey into Thailand but I'm really excited so I'll be back to tell you about all the adventures as we will be spending Christmas and New Year in our lovely beach bungalow.
