We spent two more nights in Ipoh and each day seemed to mirror the last. It's not really a place for tourists so aside from a brief wander around the streets we re-visited the cinema each night until we had exhausted their supply of films. Strangely, the price changes each time you go, but it's still cheap. On the last night i was wandering back to the hotel and got chatting to the guy who works there. He too was called Pete and the fact we had the same name as each other seemed to please him so he invited me to sit with him and chat whilst he finished his shift. Despite telling him that i only had time to briefly visit Kuala Lumpur before heading onto Singapore he went through all the other places i should go to in Malaysia and made me promise that i'd go there. Then his friend turned up but couldn't speak english so well. But he insisted on taking me on a tour of Ipoh in his nice new car. So i went, and although most of the time i couldn't understand him it was good to finally see the city as at this
point i'd pretty much lived for 3 days on one street. It was only once he asked if i wanted to join him for a massage (this was at 1am!) that i quickly insisted that i better be getting back to the hotel.
The next morning we went to our bus (which Pete had kindly booked for us) and headed to Kuala Lumpur. It was only a short journey and we were there by 1pm. Unfortunately, this was when the sun was at it's strongest and the heat and humidity was almost unbearable. We started going for a brief walk to explore the surrounding area but soon turned back as i was sure i was going to pass out. I'm afraid over the last few days i've become a really lazy traveller so for the rest of that day we sheltered in the hostel (and perhaps slept from 3pm to 8pm!) and even got a pizza delivered to us for dinner. I keep sleeping during the day, so i found myself sitting up watching football until 4am that night.
We only had 1 full day in Kuala Lumpur before moving on again so we aimed to get up
early and go out before the humidity became too unbearable. Unfortunately, i overslept so we ended up heading out close to midday. We went and visited the twin towers. You can go up them for free but there is a limit on the number of tickets they hand out each day and by the time we got there we missed out. It's a shame as it would have been good to look down on the city. There is a radio tower you can go up but it cost more than twice as much to go up there if you are non-malaysian, which is probably a little bit racist. No i forgot, it's only racist if it's the other way round. On the way back to the hotel we also visited the main square and chinatown market before I then went off on my own and visited a couple of stadiums, just making it back to the hostel before getting sun stroke. We went to the cinema (again!) that evening in the Times Sq. building. It has 9 floors with a theme park on the 5th! Unfortunately, we are out of new films to see so we picked one at random...
GP506: The Guard Post. It had an english title, so why not? It turned out to be a very very poor horror film... in Korean.
