From the clean, quiet orderly streets of Wellington and Auckland to the crowded frenzy and humidity of Kuala Lumpur!! I initially arrived in Singapore but travelled straight to the capital as i have heard Singapore is very westernised and i was aiming for a culture shock so i took the crowded bus to KL.
Sensual overload takes place as the smells of fried chicken from street vendors & car exhaust fumes fill the air, thousands of people line the frenzied disorganised streets all clamoring for space whilst there is a thunder & lightening show over the distant moutains on its way to light up & soak the city. Very exhausting getting about but was such good fun, every where you go your eyes are drawn to something, every taxi driver desperate to get your attention & there happens to be a bizaar encounter with a local. I was propositioned by a 35 yr old malaysian man, he wanted to (as he put it) put a kissy mark onto my neck to match the other one (which is in fact a birthmark) and then intoduce me to his uncle who was apparently dying of cancer out in the suburbs. :ooh how nice, thankyou for the kind offer but no thanks. Taxi !!!!
I definitely could not live here but its a great place to visit and see how these people live their everyday life, its also an eye opener to be a minority in their country and experience how well you are treated in relation to asian people in the Uk.
Everybody smiles, stares and asks how you are, alot of people want to scam you which is understandable, as long as you have your wits about you and know what you should be paying for things ( i initially paid 6 times the price for a 5 min cab ride) you have a great time here, the nightlife is awesome too.
