Monday, 2nd May 2011 Alas, we decided to ride on the KLIA Express Train on our way to the Airport. The modern train system was going to be one of the major highlights for our vacation in Kuala Lumpur. Now, this proved to be a relatively costly experience though, at a hefty RM35 price tag per person for the 28 minutes journey from KL Sentral (Compared to the RM74.30 taxi ride for 2 passengers). The journey was quiet and smooth as we sat down to gaze at the surrounding countryside as the train made its final push to the airport. I would love to take the train to the airport again provided I'm travelling alone and decided to save some money. Overall, this short trip made a nice break from our Lion City as we were ... read more

We arrive at KL International Airport at 5.50 am and take the hotel shuttle bus to the Concorde Hotel. After checking in we have breakfast then change into cooler clothes before taking the dhuttle bus back to the airport to catch the train to KL central. We go by taxi from the train station to the local market where we do a little browsing then walk through downtown KL to the Petronis Towers. We aren't ablt to go up to the viewing tower as it is closed so we have lunch and pick up a few souvenirs After lunch we head back to the hotel for a nanna then have a buffet tea before heading back to the airport for the second leg of our journey. We depart on Malaysian Airlines flight MH20 which leaves at ... read more

In my earlier blog , I said about the TV screens and the huge green banner. Next time you are at LCCT, read the TV / LCD displays along with the green banner. Now, looking back, when you read the TV screens and the green banner, things seem to make sense. But not if you only read one. I wonder why they have one set of counters labelled "R" and the others "S". There are also various departure areas, the T is for international, while there are P and various others I can't remember. I wonder whether the counters can simply be numbered from 1 to whatever, rather than a code and a number. OK, perhaps if it can be confusing when for example one set of counters end at 15, and then the next set ... read more

Uneventful check-out at Tune. Got the $5 deposit back. Tune is a very good idea, a budget hotel almost adjacent to LCCT. Other choices are those at/near KLIA which would cost you several times more in money and material and facilities pampering (provision). Many visitors have commented about Tune - convenient and has basic provision. I join them in affirming them, and also add my voice to ask Tune to improve their air-con provision. The lowest setting of 20C does not work, it's more like 25C. It might be something to do with capacity: we turned it on when we arrived in the room and it was 'cool'. But when we turned it on at about 1030pm, it was blowing air at room temperature. If you read this and plan to stay in Tune LCCT, please ... read more

AA flight D72007 in fact arrived 5 minutes earlier than scheduled, despite leaving Stansted about 25 minutes late. Both immigration (passport control) and baggage claim no problem. We are slightly pleasantly surprised at how everything turned out rather smoothly. Calm before the storm? LCCT terminal didn't look immediately familiar to me; by the time we came out of security and saw the coffee place (Costa?) I knew where I was, only that the coffee place had got 3 or 4 times bigger, allowing more customers, rather than their size of their coffee. We looked for Tune Hotel and by chance saw it in the distance. With tens of buses and hundreds of cars between us and Tune, we started walking towards Tune hoping it would do more than lead us there, to show us the way. ... read more

Malaysia Airlines and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Monk decided to fly via KL with Malaysia Airlines mostly because from KL, Malaysia fly on to Siem Reap and back from Saigon with a single airline handling the transit baggage. The alternative of going via Bangkok involves switching to Bangkok Air which Monk thinks is not the best airline at handling transit baggage. Bangkok Air is also very expensive. The Malaysia Airlines flight was fine - plenty of legroom - food OK and no problems requesting an extra glass of wine or two. However, at the moment KLIA is not a particularly good interchange airport because the aerotrain shuttle between the satellite terminal, where gates C1-C37 are, and the other gates in the main terminal is out of action until March 15th 2011. If you arrive in ... read more

Pritom pocas letu neprehovorila ani slovo. V lietadle bolo vela arabov a aziatov. Ak tam bol niekto europskeho vzhladu, tak to som bol bud ja alebo nejaki postarsi dochodca. Po chvilke letu sme dostali skore ranajky a ... read more

There are ups and there are downs with travel as in all things. Little did I know that this day would be one of the longest so far in my travels. 4:30PM Past boarding time and the doors remain closed. Lines are formed. Everybody gives a look of relief once the crew begins collecting tickets. It’s just a 55 minute flight, so I’m not too worried. 6:00PM Arrived in LCCT. With half-an-hour to make my connecting flight, I jog to the transfer gate. I reach the counter and two workers give welcoming smiles. I gasp for breath and ask, “I have a connecting flight to Tiger Airways in 25 minutes and I’m afraid I may miss it.” The woman nods and smiles making everything seem okay. She starts loading the machine for a boarding pass, then ... read more

I finally off from Bali and gotta stop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for several hours. I’ve to change flight and wait for like 8 hours before taking off again. I’m not interesting to go downtown, because I’ve been there and actually I don’t have any idea what to see there, yet I hate to wait for a long time, (though KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) is nice). And since the tension between our countries, I decide to wait for a while and post this blog. After 2 hours I get bored and decide to sleep...... read more

Well it's our 3rd and last full day at KL. Today we are planning to act like travellers instead of tourists. The last couple of days while we have been settling in we have ate in good restaurants and travelled by taxi everywhere. Our first stop is The Batu Caves, we travel firstly by Mono Rail which is cheap, fast, clean, ac, and travels above the traffic jams below. Saying all that it still has a feeling of the Mickey Mouse ride at the Fairground, where you look like you are going to tip over the edge of the track as it goes around the bend. I asked Paddy to stand in the middle because I am sure we were leaning over a bit to much on our side. Next we get directions off a couple ... read more
