So, having finished up in Thailand i flew to Kuala Lumpur..little did i realise that i'd pretty much left Asia as well...
I found an okish place to stay in an area called the Golden Triangle (no idea why!) and set about exploring the local area and found only shopping centres. Not Asian shopping centres though, pretty much your bog standard western shopping centres. They even had a Topshop and Topman! Wasn't going to complain too much though as it meant the chance for my first real bit of western food...needless to say it was great breaking from noodles and rice and soup lol.
I didn't really do too much on the first day as i was slightly knackered from the previous couple of days...but that didn't stop me getting the attention of some local Malay people (think that's what they are called). As i'm strolling around, minding my own business i get asked where i'm from. Normal enough! Then get asked to have a coffee with this lady...now we're getting to the slightly unusual, but i didn't say no as they were paying. Conversation continued on a normal pattern etc until i get asked "how would you like to be in a tv commercial?". Now it's odd...but apparently i'm good looking (according to Malay people, so not the greatest of tastes) and i also look like a drinker. So they wanted me to be in a commercial for Chang Beer. I agreed and said i'd meet them the next day...
...well i didn't in the end...had far more important stuff to do...like getting lost around the city. I had gotten got up early so that i could head up the Petronas Towers (the twin towers with the bridge bit) and i was told it would only take 20minutes to get there and it was an easy walk. Wrong! I should have got directions from the hostel as trying to find them by simply walking towards the tall buildings wasn't the easiest of ways. But i made it...all on my own...and without directions...to have to queue up for an hour to get a set time to head up...when that time finally arrived it really wasn't worth it. You get a lift to the bridge (which isn't even half way up) and are only allowed 10minutes to look around. It was shite and i wouldn't recommend it if you are a bit short of time.
After i headed to the next big tower...and once again i get stopped and asked if i wanted to join a Malaysian woman and her sister for lunch to describe in glorious details the delights of Leeds (the sister was apparently heading there for uni). Didn't have time for food...but i did my best to describe Leeds...from the one time i had been there. Oh well...she'll find out for herself in September.
Rest of the day was spent strolling around KL...and nothing really exciting actually happened...well something disturbing...when i got back to the hostel at around 11pm the creepy man on the desk offered me a massage. Needless to say, i refused, ran to my room, locked the door and put a chair against it just in case!
