After jumping on the airport express train from KL Sentral we made it into Miri on Borneo 3 hours later! The train was of course very modern and runs all the way into the airport, you can even check your luggage in at the train station before you get to the airport! we didnt do this although when we did finally check our luggage in lukes bag weighed 33kg......double the luggage allowance and double the weight of my bag!!!! Thanks to having his sleeping bag and boots connected to the outside of his rucksack. Managed to take some stuff off to get it through without extra charge
After 2 hours in the air we bounced onto the runway unable to move our legs and pleased to have arrived safely after a bumpy ride in the clouds!
At Miri airport we managed to grab a flyer advertising a new hostel called 'the highlands' and promptly made our way in a taxi.
The place were staying is really nice with free drinks, cooking area, hot showers etc. The room weve got is really nice and with great air con. So happy in fact that we couldnt be bothered to do a second days travelling and so hung around the hostel watching dvd's and munching Pizza!
On our way here we bumped into another one of them Ozzie blokes, Graham.. ! Turns out he was on his way to Brunei as well and so we all hooked up.
Spent our second night in a comfy bed and got some washing done before setting off to Brunei the following day.
As for Miri, it serves as a good base for going to see distant attractions but otherwise there is nothing there to warrent making it a long term destination. The Highlands Hostel definitely being the main attraction... oh yeah dont let the lady who runs the hostel have the tv remote, she hogs it and so i ended up sitting on it all night!

Hi guys, are you going to be visiting the Orang Utans in Borneo? I've got a friend of a friend who's working out there...not sure if she could arrange something. My favourite animals, so if you go, send me a photo of one or two! Hope you're both doing okay...sounds like it! It's absolutely freezing here and journalism is NOT paying well...so you took the best option!!! xxx
