We had the day off but were woken early by the singing, wait... no... howling of someone thinking he/she (we couldn't even guess the sex of the vocalist) is Pavarotti or someone.
After breakfast, feeling very lethargic, we caught up with the ton of correspondence we got while on Mabul. Thanks for all the pics and news from home! It was fun to catch up with all you guys. We were delighted to hear from Reefers Diving in Koh Pha-Ngan. They had stumbled upon our blog and really liked some of our pics. They also used a picture of us diving for their new brochure. We're almost famous! 😱
The heat and lack of a breeze quickly had us exhausted and we had a nap before lunch. When Talita finally managed to drag Ferdi out of bed and out the door we ran into Esther and Fiona at a restaurant and sat chatting away the afternoon. When darkness fell we said farewell to the ladies cause they were leaving on a night bus to Kota Kinabalu.
Instead of going to dinner we visited a pastry shop and bought cookies and cakes. Turned out to be mostly
tasteless. Back home we had to pack because we have to move rooms tomorrow. Scuba Junkie is running at full capacity at the moment and it's hard to get a room and a spot on a dive boat. They must be making mega bucks! When we checked this morning there was no spots to go diving tomorrow, but later they offered us a dive at different sites around Mabul. We loved diving there, so we accepted. Also, because we do fifteen dives with them they gave us each a free rash-vest and a 20%!d(MISSING)iscount. Not bad!
Today's highlights:
1. Getting a spot to go diving Mabul again.
2. Free rash-vests.
3. Chatting the afternoon away with the ladies.

Our first dive for the day was around Kapalai, a village built on the water a few kilometers east of Mabul. It was a beautiful dive. The viz was about 15m and we saw a big Titan Triggerfish man-handling a rock that was bigger than himself! He picked it up in his teeth then flipped it over. He was very strong and very tenacious. We also saw huge groupers, a few big Lionfish, and a Giant Moray
Eel, roughly the size of an Anaconda, hiding in the wreck of a sunken boat. It's hard to believe that an eel can get that big and fat!
After a break on Mabul we dived the oil-rig again. The Pygmy Seahorse refused to make an appearance. He must still be on holiday... We saw another humongous Giant Moray Eel. Unbelievable! These things must eat schools and schools of fish to get that big. We also saw our first swimming Lionfish, lots of Nudibranch (also our first time seeing Nudi eggs), a Ribbon Eel, Barracuda, Stonefish and tons of other stuff. At one point we had a good giggle as our DM was attacked by Redtooth Triggerfish.
Our third dive was at Eel Gardens. There was a bit of a current and some surge so we drifted along the reef, stopping here and there to look at a few Blue Spotted Stingrays, a Green Turtle, a Leaf Scorpionfish, a school of big Batfish, Pufferfish, and a brilliant Cuttlefish cruising around and changing colours. There was also a lot of Table Coral and little fish. We almost got strained necks from looking at all the life around us.
Today's
highlights:
1. Two humongous, gigantic Giant Moray Eels.
2. Our first Leaf Scorpionfish.
3. Awesome day's diving!
