The obligatory comedy photo!
So we have just had 2 days in Penang and although it was not our favourite place on the trip we had a good time. We did wonder if we were missing something though as everyone else seems to love Penang. To be fair anything would have been a bit of a let down after Luang Prabang.

Penang did have some plus points though. Firstly where we were staying was extremely cool. It was a restored Chinese Mansion (Choeng Fatt Tze) that had been converted into a hotel. It is quite a tourist attraction and there were groups of people on guided tours twice a day! The great thing about staying there was that you got free run of the place and you could take photos wherever you liked which was good for me.

We started by walking along the waterfront and then going to Fort Cornwallis. We also visited a Chinese Clan house called Khoo Kongsi which was really interesting. It was nice to see some different style temples and buildings. We also went to a house which had now been converted into a museum. This was a lovely place and we would have loved to have a house like it! Seems unlikely as houses like that don't exist in the UK and even if they did they would cost millions!

We decided to live it up in Penang and went to the Eastern and Oriental Hotel for lunch. It is a very flash place and is one of the best hotels in Asia. I am surprised they let us in as we looked a state! They did not seem bothered and greeted us with "Hello Sir, Hello Madam" as they opened the door for us. It was very nice having our lunch, sitting on the terrace, pretending we were rich!

That trip was several years ago now and it did nothing to rid me of my desire to travel. Some might say it made it worse! This blog means you can read all about that trip and the many more that followed. Enjoy... ... full info
